"May I take that as a compliment, old sister? You really are quite humorous, hahahaha!!!"
Downton burst into laughter at Martha's words. While laughing, he grabbed the nearest frying pan and naturally held it in front of his crotch.
Watching Downton's actions, Martha first smiled kindly, then couldn't help but roll her eyes.
"I actually quite like you calling me 'old sister.' It's the first time I've heard such a term, and it makes me feel much younger. But young man, we only had two frying pans to begin with, and now, thanks to you, there's only one left!"
As she finished speaking, Martha patted Clark's arm and instructed him.
"Don't worry, take our guest to change into some clothes. He looks about your age, or perhaps a bit older? I can't really tell the age of Asians. Young man, how old are you this year?"
"Twenty-five, just graduated a couple of years ago."
Downton replied with a cheerful grin.
"What about your son? Who's older between the two of us? By the way, I'm Downton, Downton of Downton Abbey. And him? What's his name, Clark what?"
"Clark Kent!"
Clark took over the questioning, stepping toward Downton and gesturing toward the bedroom.
"Come with me, I'll take you to change."
"No problem, but what about your age? Why didn't you say? I see, it seems I am indeed a bit older than you. Little brother, did you graduate from college?"
Following behind Clark, Downton began to chat with him with familiar ease.
Facing Downton's small talk, Clark responded mechanically.
"I'm twenty-three. Even though I'm a bit younger than you, I've already been out of college for two years."
"Oh?"
Downton patted Clark's clothes and teased him softly.
"So what if you've been out for two years? You're wearing a gas station uniform, aren't you? If you went to college just to do that, wasn't your degree a waste?"
"I..."
Clark's face turned awkward. Although this Downton looked quite kind-hearted and didn't have the "villainous" air the military described, his mouth... was truly annoying!
Clark took a frustrated breath and explained to Downton.
"It's not that I can only find work at a gas station; it's that I prefer staying near home to take care of my mother. We have a farm, and Martha can't manage it alone. The gas station job is just something I do on the side when I'm not helping out on the farm!"
"Oh, I get it now."
Downton nodded in realization, then said to Clark in a grave, earnest tone.
"You're living off your parents, aren't you, Clark?"
"Huh?"
Clark was stunned by Downton's words and quickly shook his head.
"How could I be living off my parents? I've already taken on most of the work on the farm, and I can still work odd jobs to make money. I am definitely not living off my parents!"
"Don't get so worked up, buddy. I didn't say living off your parents was a bad thing. Besides, I can't even do that now even if I wanted to, because I'll never see my family again, Clark."
"Ah, this..."
As soon as Downton finished speaking, Clark's expression turned awkward. He lowered his head slightly, caught in the sorrow of losing his own father, and said to Downton with deep empathy.
"I'm sorry, Downton. I didn't know... But I can understand you. I've lost my father too; that feeling is truly unbearable. And you, you lost... your entire family? No wonder..."
At this moment, Clark felt he understood Downton.
His super-brain was whirring at full capacity, conjuring up a bloody drama of love, hate, and vengeance in his mind for Downton.
Perhaps it was the loss of his family that turned a seemingly gentle chatterbox like Downton into the "vicious criminal" the military described!
Clark even guessed the reason for the loss of Downton's family; it must have been filled with power struggles, financial corruption, or corporate suppression. Maybe Downton's family had even died at the hands of the military!
For a moment, Clark's eyes were filled with sympathy as he looked at Downton.
Meeting Clark's sympathetic gaze, Downton asked with a light smile.
"What do you mean, 'no wonder'?"
At this, Downton suddenly stopped in his tracks, then placed a hand on Clark's shoulder.
Ignoring the slight acceleration of Clark's heartbeat, Downton continued to ask.
"You seem to know something, just as you didn't seem surprised by my sudden appearance!"
"No, no, no, I didn't mean anything else, I just meant... no wonder you chose to run around naked on the road like that, and even snuck naked into my house. As for the sudden appearance, isn't that some kind of magic trick? Come to think of it, I still haven't asked what you were doing in my house in the first place! Don't tell me you fell from the sky; my mother is naive and easily fooled by you, but I won't be! Buddy, see these muscles? I suggest you don't harbor any bad intentions toward our family!!!"
Clark flexed his biceps toward Downton, then waited nervously for Downton's response.
He certainly didn't want his secret to be discovered by someone like Downton.
Watching Clark desperately trying to cover his tracks, Downton grinned with amusement.
He was truly worthy of being a twenty-three-year-old Superman; he was just too green.
One had to realize that, aside from works like Smallville, most versions of Superman in movies, television shows, and comics didn't start their careers as Superman until the age of thirty-three.
Why did he always debut at thirty-three?
Because Jesus also began his ministry at thirty-three.
In some respects, Superman could be considered the Son of God in the DC universe.
So, barring any surprises, the Superman in front of him would only be able to see through the complexities of life and the world, and subsequently choose his lifelong path and never stop, once he reached thirty-three.
But as for this twenty-three-year-old Clark, how should one put it? The super-brain encased in his skull was actually closer to the brain of a scholar like God Wei.
It was just... pure.
So, Downton patted his arm lightly and said.
"I was just asking a damn question, look at you, practically ready to pull out your underwear to prove something to me. You're only making me more suspicious, kid!"
"No, I didn't mean to prove anything, I just..."
Hearing Downton's words, Clark hurriedly tried to say something more, but Downton cut him off directly.
"Yes, yes, you didn't mean to prove anything, and I don't care if you know something or not."
Downton raised his foot and kicked Clark in the backside, then continued.
"Hurry up and take me to change clothes, buddy. This time, consider it me owing the Kent Family a favor. Once I finish what I'm working on, I'll have someone send your family money for the clothes. Believe me, it will be a large sum, and it's money you deserve; you all should improve your quality of life."
After speaking, Downton gave Clark's backside another kick, a gesture that made Clark frown in dissatisfaction.
However, Clark eventually led Downton to his room and found a set of his own clothes for him.
Clark was one hundred and ninety-one centimeters tall, only four centimeters taller than Downton, so his clothes fit Downton perfectly.
Thus, a short while later, Downton appeared in the Kent Family's yard, dressed in jeans, sneakers, and a short-sleeved white undershirt.
Looking at Downton, Martha nodded with a smile.
"You look just like my son; you are both equally strong and fill out the clothes quite nicely."
"Thank you for the compliment, Martha. I'll return the clothes to you in a few days, along with my gratitude. However, I still need Clark to do me a favor; I have an urgent matter to attend to in a nearby town. So, Clark, would you mind giving me a lift?"
