Background / History

Diana lived publicly as a historian at London History Museum and was regarded as an authority on Aegean civilization and Greek mythology. Wayne Group invited her to Gotham for a mythology and history symposium concerning the publicly active immortal Duncan/Wraith; she was the first respondent to arrive. Initially, she regarded Duncan as a dangerous but potentially redeemable young man who needed guidance rather than immediate execution. 91 96

Her view changed after she confronted him in Gotham. Diana discovered that neither decapitation, severe bodily harm, nor the Lasso of Truth could contain him; every injury and death appeared to make him stronger. Convinced that he was an ancient mythic being despite his claims of humanity, she began seeking evidence of his origin and weakness. 110 111 113

Diana consulted Doctor Fate and sought help from Zatanna, but refused to bring the inexperienced magician into a fight she considered beyond both magic and divine power. After Doctor Fate's death, she returned to Themyscira to search the Grand Memorial Hall's records and appeal to the gods for answers. 113 116 142 236

Her early recklessness against Wraith gave way to a more cautious strategy. When Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and Madam Inza proposed confronting him, Diana warned that provoking an enemy who grew stronger through injury, failure, and death would be suicidal until his weakness was known. 237

Appearance

Diana is repeatedly noted for her exceptional beauty and elegance, traits that stand out even in ordinary civilian settings. In battle, she appears as a golden-armored Amazon warrior carrying divine weapons. 91 115

  • Wears a divine battle suit and armor when responding to major threats. 236 457
  • Uses a golden Lasso of Truth as both a restraint and an investigative tool. 110 461
  • Carries a sword, shield, and Bracelets of Submission in combat. 91 110
  • Can rapidly regenerate severe injuries, including a lost arm. 138 140

Personality

Diana is a direct, forceful warrior with flexible moral limits. Having lived through major wars and confronted extreme evil, she does not share the no-kill rule observed by many heroes; when she judges someone irredeemably dangerous, she is willing to kill them. 91

She is also protective and principled. Her first concern during Duncan's attacks is often civilian rescue, and she refuses to let Zatanna face a threat she considers too dangerous for an inexperienced fighter. 116 122

Repeated defeats by Wraith make Diana more measured. Rather than pursue revenge blindly, she insists on understanding his abilities and finding a genuine weakness before committing more allies to battle. 237

Diana remains fiercely protective of humanity and reacts strongly to those who treat human lives as disposable, as shown by her campaign against the Enchantress siblings in Israel. 368 370

Abilities & Skills
