If this move landed, Mu Jin would undoubtedly die!
Realizing this, a ring of red welled around his eyes, the veins in his eyeballs bulging. He nearly stopped breathing.
Cold, sharp moisture seeped in through every opening, pressing against his five senses. Danger crept closer bit by bit, killing intent lurking on all sides.
The droplet in his pupil gradually enlarged, reflecting the cold gleam of the moon.
Mu Jin's entire body was slowly invaded by the chill, stiff beyond measure as he watched death close in with his own eyes.
A flash of cold light swept past. He instinctively shut his eyes, ready to meet death.
Clang!
A crisp ring echoed beside his ears, like countless needles stabbing at his eardrums.
A sharp blade of water skimmed past his cheek, slicing open his skin. The scent of blood spread through the air.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Three enormous explosions rang out in succession.
The crashing of water blended together, as though heaven and earth themselves were shaking.
After the blasts and tremors came utter silence.
Mu Jin smelled the breath of life!
He slowly opened his eyes and saw a sword lying across before him.
The blade reflected a sliver of cold light onto his face, where it slowly flowed.
The person who had just been holding that sword and trying to kill him was now standing with her back to him, sword in hand.
That final move had not fallen upon him after all...
Yuan Xi had sensed the presence of a third person long ago, when she began casting her spell.
When she and Mu Jin exchanged their final move, that person struck!
She gave up on taking Mu Jin's life, turning her blade around and sending every strike rushing toward the hidden figure.
A streak of red light spiraled forth. The air around them seemed several degrees colder, and a thick stench of blood spread through the air.
Even before seeing the person herself, Yuan Xi could already sense that the arrival meant trouble.
"Looks like we accidentally alerted an evil cultivator hiding in the dark."
As she spoke, Yuan Xi quietly swept her gaze around the area.
She tried to find where the Evil Cultivator Gang might be hiding.
A coquettish, crystalline laugh rang out as Gu Ming, the Priestess, approached from afar.
Mu Jin stared at the woman before him in shock and muttered under his breath, "Black hair, red flowers; a painting of snakes and scorpions. A purple-gold mask, beside red spider lilies."
He suddenly raised his voice to warn Yuan Xi, "Careful! She is Gu Ming, the Priestess, one of the Twelve Priests of the Heavenly Sacrifice Sect!"
Yuan Xi instantly tightened her grip on her sword. "The Heavenly Sacrifice Sect?!"
Gu Ming stepped close to Yuan Xi, her foxlike eyes sizing Yuan Xi up and down with satisfaction.
"Judging by your bone age, you should be around twelve or thirteen. To possess Golden Core cultivation at that age is almost unheard of in the world."
Her smile gradually became vicious and crazed.
"I hear you also have two junior disciples with even better talent... Once I eat the three of you, breaking through to the Nascent Soul stage will be as easy as turning my hand."
"Even Heaven is helping me!"
"You're an evil cultivator from the Heavenly Sacrifice Sect?" Yuan Xi asked calmly.
She was furious, so enraged that the flames seemed capable of burning her flesh and blood to ash. Yet the more furious she became, the calmer she appeared.
"Then you must be the true culprit behind the murders and head thefts in Ming City..."
The hand behind her back quietly gestured to Mu Jin.
Sword in hand, Yuan Xi stepped closer to Gu Ming one step at a time.
Gu Ming said, "What is it, little girl? You've heard the Heavenly Sacrifice Sect's name before?"
Gu Ming took out a pair of red silk-wrapped gloves and elegantly put them on. She winked at Yuan Xi. "Don't worry, I'll be very gentle~"
A gentle, radiant smile curved Yuan Xi's lips as well, though dense killing intent gathered in her eyes.
Her voice was soft and unhurried, every word clearly enunciated.
"Trash raised by the Heavenly Sacrifice Sect—I'll kill one whenever I see one, and kill a pair whenever I see a pair!"
This chapter is one thousand words. I still owe one thousand more; I'll make it up tomorrow.
My Lin Qi will appear in the next chapter.
