Background / History

Hong Xuanji was Great Qian's Grand Tutor, Crown Prince's tutor, Marquis Wuwen, and a renowned Neo-Confucian master. His prestige within the Hong Residence was so overwhelming that even his son Hong Yi feared him. He regarded hierarchy between superiors and inferiors as the natural order and condemned Hong Yi's association with Xiao Xian as rebellion against that order. 126 131 134

When a suspected Peak Martial Saint appeared at West Mountain Desolate Temple, Hong Xuanji and Emperor Yang Pan treated the matter as a threat to Great Qian. Hong Xuanji assumed responsibility for investigating Xiao Xian's origins and intentions. 122

Xiao Xian's intervention on Hong Yi's behalf brought Hong Xuanji's authority into direct conflict with a superior power. After failing to defeat Xiao Xian in argument, he attacked with the All Heavens Life and Death Wheel and was severely injured by a single finger strike. The defeat damaged both his reputation and confidence in his own doctrine. 127 128 132

A Creation Golden Pill enabled him to heal and attain the Human Immortal realm. Armed with the Imperial Heaven Beginning Dragon Armor, he sought to defeat Xiao Xian publicly, reclaim his honor, and validate his Neo-Confucian path. Instead, he was defeated again; Xiao Xian killed Zhao Feier, stripped away his armor, and expelled him from Dragon Slaying Mountain. 134 135 139 140

Forced to leave Jade Capital City, Hong Xuanji entered the Nine Abyss Divine Territory. There he acquired further opportunities, aided the Three Daoist Sons against the Heaven Splitting Great Emperor, and deliberately pursued an unowned supreme Martial Dao aura rather than rashly confronting Xiao Xian again. 146 154 156

Within a year, Hong Xuanji reached Thousand Transformations. He ultimately joined Yang Pan against Xiao Xian during the unification war, sacrificing innumerable innate gods and demons through the Blood Sacrifice of Ten Thousand Kings. Xiao Xian countered with the Five Signs of the Decay of Heaven and Man, regressing Hong Xuanji's cultivation to peak Human Immortal before reducing him to ashes. 202 204 205

Personality

Hong Xuanji is proud, status-conscious, and deeply attached to his Neo-Confucian worldview. He considers upright conduct, ritual propriety, and hierarchy the only legitimate path, dismissing techniques he deems unorthodox as “ghostly and evil methods.” 127

His defeats by Xiao Xian expose a volatile mixture of arrogance, vindictiveness, and fear. When he cannot refute Xiao Xian intellectually, he resorts to force; when overpowered, he focuses on future revenge and advancement. 128 130 137

After leaving the capital, he becomes markedly more patient and calculating. He openly acknowledges fear of Xiao Xian to avoid manipulation, conceals his real objectives, and prioritizes securing a decisive opportunity before their next encounter. 155 156

Abilities & Skills

Martial Cultivation

Hong Xuanji possesses exceptional physical cultivation, progressing from Martial Saint to Thousand Transformations through combat, resources, and inherited opportunities.

  • His Human Immortal blood and qi function like a blazing sun, severely threatening nearby Yin Gods and divine-soul cultivators. 137
  • At Thousand Transformations, his body is tempered by two intertwined Progenitor Dragons that continually release yin-yang energy into his acupoints. 203
  • His cultivation ultimately regresses after the Five Signs of the Decay of Heaven and Man counters his final technique. 205

All Heavens Life and Death Wheel

Hong Xuanji's signature fist technique manifests a vast wheel embodying life, death, and divine judgment.

  • Projects overwhelming blood energy capable of shaking the Hong Residence and drawing the attention of Jade Capital City's experts. 128
  • At Human Immortal level, its fist intent can become physically substantial. 137 138
  • The wheel's emitted power erodes divine souls and burns Yin Gods caught in its aftermath. 137

Substantial Fist Intent

A high-level Human Immortal attainment that turns intangible fist intent into a physical manifestation.

  • Allows the All Heavens Life and Death Wheel to appear as a massive tangible construct over Dragon Slaying Mountain. 138
  • Its early manifestation shocks hidden experts, who consider it a capability normally reserved for peak Human Immortals. 138

Yu Character Secret

A spatial restraining technique used alongside his martial arts.

  • Can imprison or freeze space around an opponent. 129 138
  • Its restraint fails to secure Xiao Xian during their battle. 139

Blood Sacrifice of Ten Thousand Kings

Hong Xuanji's ultimate defensive technique.

  • Summons and sacrifices countless innate gods and demons to form a defensive firewall. 204
  • Consumes the foundation of his Martial Dao, including the two Progenitor Dragons. 204
  • Its use contributes to his cultivation's regression before his death. 205

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Imperial Heaven Beginning Dragon Armor — Divine armor made from the skin and flesh of the Primordial Beginning Ancient Dragon; boosts Hong Xuanji's strength, merges him with dragon power, and grants flight at supersonic speed. Xiao Xian later forcibly strips it from him. 134 137 138 140
  • Creation Golden Pill — Given by Yang Pan; heals Hong Xuanji's severe injuries and precipitates his breakthrough to Human Immortal. 134

Relationships

  • Yang Pan — Emperor of Great Qian, political ally, and close supporter; provides the Creation Golden Pill and Imperial Heaven Beginning Dragon Armor, then fights alongside him against Xiao Xian. 122 134 204
