Background

At four years old, Zhu Zhuqing lived in poor conditions within the Zhu family of the Star Luo Empire. Qian Chengxiao observed that her standing was below even that of household servants, yet she remained determined and resilient. Seeing her as possessing a “protagonist-like” disposition, he offered to take her away in exchange for helping him complete one future task. Zhu Zhuqing accepted immediately, believing someone of his power had no need to deceive or coerce her. 214

Over the following years, Zhu Zhuqing traveled throughout the Star Luo Empire with Qian Chengxiao, Bibi Dong, Tang Yuehua, Gu Yue Na, and the others. Their consistent care gradually changed her from a cautious, unsmiling child who sought approval into a lively, affectionate, and polite girl who considered the group her family. 218 220 222

Qian Chengxiao intends for Zhu Zhuqing to eventually approach Tang San as part of his larger plan. Zhu Zhuqing is aware of the approaching separation and resolves to become strong enough that she will not burden the people who raised her. 234 237 238

As a child, Zhu Zhuqing is described as beautiful, delicate, and unusually tall for her age. Her increasingly bright demeanor is frequently contrasted with the withdrawn child Qian Chengxiao first found. 220 222 241
