Background / History
Chen Qing originates from another world and awakens in the body of a conscripted Great Yan border soldier. Initially terrified by his situation, he discovers a system that converts the vitality of slain living beings and battlefield remnants into martial-arts proficiency. His first battle elevates him from a disposable auxiliary soldier to the Skin Refining Realm. 1 2
His rise begins in the Supply Camp, where he protects four recruits, earns Squad Leader Zhang’s trust, and learns the damaged Iron Body Skill. During a Northern Mang assault, he survives a near-fatal collapse into a burning tent; battlefield malevolent energy fuses with and mutates his body-hardening art, leaving him with a destructive black-red aura. 4 7
Transferred into the Vanguard Camp, Chen Qing defeats veteran challengers Old Niu and Sun Quezi, leads successful raids, and rises through the ranks by killing enemy officers and surviving an ambush linked to Squad Leader Li. His growing strength, ruthless reputation, and connection to the Black Tiger martial arts draw notice from both the military and the Imperial Capital. 10 13 17 25
After breaking into the Meridian Condensing Realm, he turns the Northern Frontier war through formation-breaking raids, the rout of Northern Mang forces, and the expansion of his Black Tiger Camp. The Great Yan court rewards him with titles and troops, while Northern Mang’s Left Virtuous King Wuwei places a bounty on his head. 20 25 31 34
Chen Qing later defeats the Azure Wolf Death Warriors, reaches the Aperture Opening Realm, and receives full authority as Great General of the Northern Expedition. He leads fifty thousand elite troops against the Northern Mang Royal Court, survives the Wolf Ancestor Dharma Aspect’s destruction, and acquires a Black Tiger Legacy fragment. 41 46 47
Following the Royal Court’s annihilation, Chen Qing becomes Duke of Zhenguo. Rather than immediately obeying the Emperor’s recall, he remains in the Northern Frontier, incorporates surrendered Northern Mang soldiers, expands Zhenbei City, and establishes a military-centered regional order. 48 49
Appearance
Chen Qing is a young man whose appearance becomes increasingly marked by his malevolent-energy cultivation and repeated battlefield injuries. His early military gear is tattered and improvised; later accounts emphasize his contained but oppressive presence. 1 7 10 18
- Blood- and sweat-streaked face and intensely sharp eyes after his first battle. 1
- Initially wears worn auxiliary-soldier leather armor and carries a looted Northern Mang curved saber. 1 3
- Receives semi-new iron armor and a standard military ring-hilted saber after his transformation. 7
- Develops black-red patterns across his hands, bones, wounds, and meridians after absorbing battlefield malevolent energy. 6 7 18
- His eyes are described as dark red, cold, and inhumanly still during periods of intense malevolent-energy influence. 7 21
Personality
Chen Qing is pragmatic, quiet, and intensely survival-driven. He judges the border army by a simple standard—strength determines whether one lives, commands respect, or becomes prey. He does not seek formal justice against enemies such as Squad Leader Li; instead, he relies on preparation and personal power. 2 14 16
In battle, he is ruthless and decisive, favoring officer-targeting, surprise attacks, and overwhelming pressure. His willingness to endure severe injury and use dangerous cultivation methods makes him frightening even to allies, but it also allows him to lead men through situations they would otherwise consider hopeless. 5 18 20 21
He is not indifferent to his soldiers. He shares supplies with vulnerable recruits, gives them basic survival instruction, distributes rewards, and repeatedly frames his leadership around bringing subordinates back alive. As his status grows, this protective loyalty develops into a larger ambition: establishing the Northern Frontier as a foundation beyond direct imperial control. 4 10 13 48 49
