Background / History

Gu Yi is a transmigrator from Earth who awakened his Martial Soul in Maple Leaf Village at age six. His first Martial Soul was Blood, which Spirit Hall’s Su Yuntao initially regarded as a waste-type Body Martial Soul. Gu Yi’s Innate Full Soul Power immediately revealed his exceptional potential; he declined Su Yuntao’s invitation to join Spirit Hall and accepted a Work-Study Student place at Nuoding Academy instead. 1

After returning home, Gu Yi revealed his second Martial Soul, Bone, and awakened the Myriad Worlds Gate within his soul. The Gate required Source Power to open passages to other worlds, giving Gu Yi a route to cultivate beyond the limits of Douluo Continent. 2

During an early journey to the Nine Heavens Continent, Gu Yi fabricated an orphaned identity and gained the protection of the hunter Mu Hu. Mu Hu became his martial arts teacher after recognizing Gu Yi’s extraordinary ability to absorb Heaven and Earth Origin Qi. Gu Yi chose to cultivate both the Nine Heavens Martial Dao and the soul master system, believing each could strengthen and evolve his Martial Souls. 6 7

At Nuoding Academy, Gu Yi established himself through force, defeating Tang San, Xiao Wu, and the other Work-Study Students before challenging students across the academy for Source Power. His continued victories over Tang San turned their relationship into a lasting rivalry. 18 20 30

Appearance

Following repeated Life Destructions, Gu Yi’s body became exceptionally refined: sharply defined features, translucent jade-like skin, and a muscular build described as flawless and possessing the beauty of strength. 256

  • His physique has undergone extensive blood-, bone-, ice-, fire-, and body-tempering cultivation. 76 166
  • He can manifest close-fitting bone armor from his Bone Martial Soul. 119
  • His Self-Martial Soul Fusion creates the towering golden-red Immortal Dharma Body, surrounded by blood-colored clouds. 60
  • He can assume a larger Heavenly Manifestation with Three Heads Six Arms, wielding the Blood Soul Spear and Great Desolation Blood Halberd. 286

Personality

Gu Yi is calculating, pragmatic, and intensely focused on strength. He routinely treats information, resources, battle experience, and access to cultivation inheritances as tools for advancement. He studies an unfamiliar world’s language and power structure before committing to a course of action, and he deliberately gathers intelligence before confronting major threats. 6 231

He is also decisive once he has chosen a goal. Gu Yi challenges entire academies, defeats sect leaders for artifacts, suppresses hostile factions, and uses captured enemies or corpses to expand his forces. 20 138 151 His willingness to fabricate identities, manipulate events based on foreknowledge, and force opponents into submission makes him feared as much as admired. 6 7 151 202

Despite this ruthlessness, he invests in companions and allies who cultivate alongside him, shares valuable resources when it serves a lasting alliance, and delegates territory rather than personally managing every faction under his control. 67 131 326

Abilities & Skills

Martial Souls

Gu Yi possesses three Martial Souls: Blood, Bone, and Star. His Blood and Bone Martial Souls can be used simultaneously, violating the usual restriction on Twin Martial Soul masters. 1 2 60 161

  • Blood Martial Soul — governs blood, vitality, recovery, devouring, and offensive blood-based Soul Skills.
  • Bone Martial Soul — manifests armor, weapons, additional limbs, and defensive or spatial abilities.
  • Star Martial Soul — acquired through the Star Martial Soul Source Seal; its full potential requires access to the Three Gods Sect in the Endless Sea. 161 162
  • His Martial Souls later evolved into the Heavenly Blood Martial Soul, Dao Bone Martial Soul, and Star Martial Soul. 318

Self-Martial Soul Fusion: Immortal Dharma Body

Gu Yi can fuse his Blood and Bone Martial Souls into the Immortal Dharma Body, a giant golden-red combat form. 60

  • Combines Blood Martial Soul regeneration with Bone Martial Soul defense.
  • Allows the fusion of blood into bone and channels True Qi through both Martial Soul origins.
  • Its projected combat power was estimated to reach the peak of the Profound Martial Realm while Gu Yi himself was only at the first level of that realm. 125

Blood and Regeneration Techniques

Gu Yi’s Blood Martial Soul supports combat enhancement, healing, mobility, and life absorption. His injuries can heal in moments through blood-red flames rich in life energy. 60

  • Bone of the Evil God — increases bone strength and defense by 400%, while adding corrosive and dark properties to attacks. 120
  • Space Solidification — controls space within roughly one hundred meters; highly effective against weaker opponents but consumes substantial True Qi. 120

  • Three Heads Six Arms — modified by Gu Yi from an original three-headed Soul Skill, producing two extra heads and four bone arms. 125
  • Dark Gold Bone Armor and Spatial Teleportation — further defensive and movement techniques; the latter initially has a range of about one hundred meters. 125

Blood Shadow and Clone Arts

Gu Yi’s Blood Shadow Soul Skill can convert corpses into controllable puppets. He later refined the Blood Body Secret Art to create stable, self-cultivating Blood God Children. 67 131

  • A Blood Shadow Puppet made from Tang Hao retained 30% of Tang Hao’s cultivation and six soul-bone skills, but lacked Tang Hao’s Martial Soul and Soul Ring Skills. 67
  • Gu Yi could create up to fifteen Blood Shadow Puppets at the time, though he could only operate three at peak effectiveness simultaneously. 67
  • The Life-Death Blood Talisman controls living targets and demonic beasts; its later form can affect more than the physical body. 158 202
  • Known Blood God Child clones include Gu Hun, Gu Xiao, Gu Yan, Gu Xue, Gu Di, and Gu Ling. 167
  • Gu Ling was formed from the Sacred Spirit God’s soul origin and Dragon Crystal, retaining the ability to gather natural energy. 166

Soul, Will, and Battle Spirit

Gu Yi cultivates the Heaven-tier Remnant Soul Heavenly Art, splitting and controlling numerous remnant souls. 115 167

  • His Soul Sacrifice technique combines remnant souls into an attack capable of interrupting a powerful soul’s self-destruction. 166
  • On the Path of Emperors, he defeated Emperor-level residual wills and improved his Battle Spirit from Bronze mastery to the Silver Battle Spirit realm. 249 256
  • His later divine sense could rival that of a Void Return Earth Immortal. 326

The spear is Gu Yi’s primary weapon discipline. His spear techniques can identify and strike weaknesses in enemy techniques, disrupt opponents’ blood flow and Soul Power, and improve during battle. 60

  • Mad Lion Spear Technique, Soul Severing Spear Technique, and Star Chasing Spear Technique — part of his later spear repertoire. 104

  • Heaven-Questioning Spear Art — learned from the Ten Strong Martial Arts and used to hone his combat skill against the Fire Qilin. 156
  • Life-Death Seal — a Supreme Divine Martial Art capable of manipulating life and death qi; at beginner mastery, it could create a deathly forbidden zone or restore life and flesh at Gu Yi’s will. 291

Myriad Worlds Gate

A mysterious gate hidden in Gu Yi’s soul, the Myriad Worlds Gate enables travel through the Myriad Heavens and Worlds. It remained dormant until Gu Yi awakened his Martial Soul and gained access to Innate Soul Power. 2

  • Requires Source Power to activate and open new worlds. 2 154
  • Its Enlightenment function places Gu Yi in an exceptionally calm, insightful state, helping him learn languages, techniques, and cultivation principles. 6 8
  • Allows Gu Yi to establish Anchor Points and travel between distant locations through his Blood God Children. 136
  • Connected him to cultivation worlds as well as a devastated technological world. 154
