Background / History

Lin Feng was born as the only son of Lin Hai, head of Yangzhou City’s Lin Family. Before his transformation, he was ridiculed as a useless cultivator: his Martial Soul appeared to be a limp black snake, and he took more than four months merely to draw qi into his body. He later entered Cloud Sea Sect as an outer disciple, where his fifth-level Qi Martial cultivation left him vulnerable to constant humiliation. 10 101

Gu Yi intervened when Lin Heng and several stronger disciples nearly beat Lin Feng to death in Wind and Cloud Gorge, healing him with a pill and advising him not to return until he was strong enough. Fearing further attempts on his life, Lin Feng left Cloud Sea Sect for Yangzhou City, but Lin Heng pursued him and cornered him atop a cliff. Rather than have his Dantian destroyed, Lin Feng jumped. 101 102

The original Lin Feng died from the fall. An Earth transmigrator then entered his body and merged with the original owner’s soul, inheriting both his memories and resentment. The new Lin Feng resolved to avenge the original owner, conceal the circumstances of his return, and develop the strength to kill Lin Heng. 103 104

His apparent snake Martial Soul is the degenerated form of the Yue Clan’s Nine Dragon Sky Devourer Martial Soul. Gu Yi also reveals that Lin Hai was one of Snow Moon Kingdom’s Four Great Geniuses, but his Martial Soul and cultivation were sealed after a battle in the imperial capital. This revelation drives Lin Feng to seek the truth about his parents and his own lineage. 106 135

Lin Feng is initially described as a delicate-featured youth of about fifteen. Following his transmigration and rapid growth, he carries himself with the sharpness of an unsheathed sword rather than the timidity of the former “trash” disciple. 101 105

After merging with the original owner’s soul, he treats that body’s debts and grievances as his own karma. He plans revenge patiently rather than confronting Lin Heng before he has sufficient strength, intending first to acquire martial skills and lure his enemy into a favorable battlefield. 104
