Background / History

Cloud Sea Sect was founded around an ancient cultivation site discovered by its ancestors beneath Heavenly Chasm Cliff. This cave dwelling held the sect’s original technique manuals, including numerous Profound-tier arts and three Earth-tier low-grade cultivation techniques and martial skills, as well as a room of Spirit Tools. 97

Its original headquarters stood on Cloud Sea Peak, a broad central mountain enclosed by eight immense surrounding peaks. Iron chain bridges linked the main peak to the others, allowing disciples to seek isolated cultivation grounds throughout the range. 31 32

The Cloud Sea Mountain Range also concealed exceptional inheritances and sealed powers. It was associated with the Demon Sealing Great Emperor, Nine Nether Demon Emperor, Emperor Xi, and Flame Emperor; two tombs lay beneath the range, while access to a Small World containing the sealed Flame Emperor was hidden in a mountain cave. 31

Gu Yi joined the sect as an outer disciple after delivering Liu Canglan’s letter to Sect Master Nangong Ling. Although the sect master and elders recognized his potential, its rules required every Qi Martial Realm disciple to begin in the outer sect. 31 32

The challenge-based promotion system was intended to maintain limited inner and core disciple slots while forcing disciples to compete for resources and status. 31

Competitions

The sect held two annual grand competitions after the New Year:

• The first promoted qualified outer disciples to the inner sect and inner disciples to the core sect. 109
• The second ranked the top 100 outer disciples, top 81 inner disciples, and top 36 core disciples. 109
• High-ranking participants could receive origin stones, heavenly materials and earthly treasures, divine weapons, pills, cultivation techniques, or martial skills. 109

Locations

Cloud Sea Peak and the Eight Peaks

Cloud Sea Peak served as the sect’s main peak and resembled a city built among mountains. Eight towering peaks surrounded it in a natural formation; each was vast enough to contain secluded cultivation areas. 31 32

Wind and Cloud Gorge

Wind and Cloud Gorge was the sect’s primary combat area. It contained ten Life-and-Death Arenas for sanctioned death matches and hosted the ranking phase of the grand competition. 105 109

Before Gu Yi’s reforms, disciples were nominally forbidden from killing each other in the gorge, but stronger disciples could still cripple weaker opponents’ cultivation without violating the rules. Nangong Ling subsequently established an Enforcement Team to punish such abuse. 103

Heavenly Chasm Cliff

Heavenly Chasm Cliff stood on the sect’s tallest peak, overlooking a bottomless abyss. It hosted dangerous sect trials; the few disciples who passed historically became exceptional core disciples. 97

• Bell Drum Cliff — A trial site within the area. Gu Yi was the first person in the sect’s thousand-year history to ring its highest difficulty of eight chimes; Lin Feng later achieved the same number of bell-and-drum chimes. 106
• Ancient cave dwelling — The ancestral cultivation site beneath the cliff, containing original manuals and Spirit Tools. 97
• Escape route — A route beneath the cliff was retained as a possible evacuation path after the Bronze Legion siege. 112

Black Wind Ridge

Black Wind Ridge was a vast demonic-beast region near the sect. Small beast tides served as live combat training, allowing disciples to gain beast cores and temper themselves in genuine life-and-death battles. 109

Recruitment in Heaven Dou City

The Heaven Dou City headquarters opened large-scale recruitment without judging applicants by Innate Soul Power or martial soul quality. Candidates aged twelve or younger could apply; existing Soul Masters could be as old as fifteen. 128

Major Conflicts

Bright Moon Sect challenge

Bright Moon Sect’s Young Master Dapeng, Chu Zhanpeng, came to challenge Cloud Sea Sect at the Life-and-Death Arena. His arrival exposed the gap between the two sects, but Gu Yi confronted him and prevented Cloud Sea Sect from surrendering Lin Feng to Bright Moon Sect. 105 106

Gu Yi’s battle with Chu Zhanpeng was treated publicly as a draw, despite Gu Yi fighting across an entire major realm. The event established Cloud Sea Sect as a faction capable of producing an extraordinary genius. 107

Snow Moon Sacred Academy crisis

Sect Master Nangong Ling rejected the Snow Moon Monarch’s demand that Cloud Sea Sect surrender outstanding disciples to establish the Snow Moon Sacred Academy. The refusal made the sect the intended example for intimidating other Snow Moon factions. 109

Duan Tianlang later surrounded the sect with the Bronze Legion and allied sect experts, offering named disciples survival if they betrayed Cloud Sea Sect and joined the Sacred Academy or another faction. 110

Gu Yi counterattacked, killed the traitorous disciples who had defected, and fought alongside the sect’s elders and remaining disciples. The battle ended after Gu Yi killed Duan Tianlang and the invading Profound Martial Realm experts, collapsing the Bronze Legion’s morale. 110 112
