Background / History

Chu Mingyu awakened from an ancient forbidden area three days before encountering Di Tian. As the sole Heavenly Ghost of his race, he emerged with no money but an instinctive talent for artifact refinement; his immediate goal was to obtain a Chaos Black Crystal from a Dao Emperor’s tomb. He immediately recognized Di Tian as his greatest enemy, while Di Tian likewise identified him as a dangerous Child of Destiny. 412 413

Despite this enmity, Chu Mingyu temporarily traveled with Di Tian into the tomb. There, he annihilated bound souls with his sword, calling the act a form of “Physical Salvation.” After a Dao Emperor’s remnant soul attempted to possess him, he sealed it through a rune-created portal. He then turned on Di Tian by summoning evil spirits, beginning their prolonged contest of traps, artifacts, and counter-schemes. 413 414

Following an attack ordered by Di Tian through the White Tiger Clan, Chu Mingyu used a blood-rune ritual to summon a powerful phantom and escape. His mysterious mirror restored his injuries and advanced his power, though the precise realm was not stated. 422

He later established the Ghost Hall in the North Sea, using his artifact-refining ability and vast collection of Dao Artifacts to recruit cultivators and clans. The Hall offered personalized artifacts, protection, and favors in exchange for loyalty or future obligations. 430 431

Di Tian infiltrated and dismantled this power base through manipulation. Chu Mingyu was tricked into killing Candle Spirit, the spirit associated with his natal mirror, then lost much of the Heavenly Spirit Mirror’s full power. When he tried to expose Di Tian through the mirror, Di Tian instead manipulated the artifact into publicly displaying compromising and catastrophic visions of Chu Mingyu’s past and possible future. 434 437 438 440

Cornered by the crowd’s hostility, Chu Mingyu unleashed his Heavenly Ghost True Body, defeated the Great Tang Immortal Lord in one move, and killed Great Tang’s Ancestor. He subsequently used the Heavenly Spirit Mirror and a formation to kill several Supreme Sixth Step cultivators, but the strain left him badly weakened. Di Tian then reappeared, shattered the Heavenly Spirit Mirror, and killed him. 442 443

Appearance

Chu Mingyu commonly appears in black clothing with an indistinct face and unnaturally pale skin. Strange runes cover his exposed arm and become prominent when he activates his Heavenly Ghost techniques. 412 414

Personality

Chu Mingyu is instinctively wary, perceptive, and willing to scheme against stronger enemies. He quickly suspects manipulation, questions the loyalties of potential allies, and uses deception during battle, including feigning escape to draw out hidden opponents. 423 432 442

His confidence can become arrogance. He publicly challenged Di Tian’s forces with his own summoned allies, only to underestimate the Sky Swallowing Beast and lose much of the force he had gathered. 435

He also displays striking naivety outside cultivation and artifact refinement. He cannot grill fish, lacks basic worldly knowledge, and becomes frustrated when Di Tian exploits this in their bet. 424 425
