Background
Shi Yi was born with Double Pupils, a condition modern medicine diagnosed as congenital cataracts. His unusual eyes frightened others from childhood, including his family, and he grew accustomed to concealing them behind sunglasses. At sixteen, his pupils changed to red and blue and awakened a panel identifying him as the “Pupil Master,” with several Divine Abilities and the means to traverse another world 1.
He initially lived alone in a small apartment on Earth and maintained a deliberately distant relationship with his parents, Shi Xuan and Qin Wanqing, and his younger brother, Shi Hao. After leaving the family home, he preferred solitude and sought to preserve the fragile stability of their household rather than force closeness 17 18.
Upon entering the Central Great World, Shi Yi created a scholar identity to conceal both his origins and his Double Pupils. He joined Anyang Martial Arts School under Lu Feng, then later advanced through Anhe Martial Arts School and Evergreen Temple. His literacy studies under Lou Xuanming and his study of local history, cultivation texts, and medicine became as important to his growth as physical training 4 5 25 39.
Appearance
Shi Yi is a strikingly handsome young man with refined features and a face described as jade-like when his eyes are closed. Martial cultivation steadily makes his build more muscular and imposing, while his completed Ice Skin gives him unusually fair, smooth skin 1 17 130.
- His Double Pupils consist of two outer blue pupils and two inner red pupils, which emit a faint divine light visible in reflections but appear black in medical examinations and photographs 1.
- He usually hides his eyes with sunglasses on Earth and with contact lenses when operating in the Central Great World 1 4.
- He can adopt radically different appearances, demeanor, clothing, and mannerisms to pass as a scholar or conceal his identity 4 243.
- His inscription-enhanced skin becomes increasingly resistant to weapons as his Martial Path cultivation advances 83 131.
Personality
Shi Yi is reserved, disciplined, and intensely self-reliant. Years of ostracization gave him an indomitable temperament and a habit of ignoring gossip, provocation, and public scrutiny. He plans his breakthroughs carefully, often concealing progress so that his talent does not attract dangerous attention 3 6 47 74.
He values knowledge as a practical necessity. He pursues literacy after acquiring manuals he cannot read, studies cultivation records and medical texts, and modifies martial techniques according to the changes he perceives in his own qi and blood 12 131 133.
Shi Yi is cautious about trust, particularly among factions and sects. He refuses recruitment attempts before understanding the situation, avoids Anhe Martial Arts School’s internal conflicts, and relies on Song Jing and Gu Qianqiu only after judging their actions dependable 62 74 149.
His compassion is limited where enemies are concerned. He disposes of hostile gang members without hesitation and considers those who attempt to kill him legitimate targets for elimination 12 265 266.
