Dragon King Palace

Ye Chen was raised as the Dragon King of the Dragon King Palace. The masked man who trained him repeatedly indoctrinated him to regard the world as hostile: useful men were to become tools, useless ones were to be eliminated, and beautiful women were to be gathered into his harem. This conditioning shaped his belief that nearly everyone around him could become an enemy. 243

Lu Yuyan is Ye Chen's mother. She later recalled that his personality changed after the masked man took him away for more than a month of Dragon King training; the affectionate child who called her “Mama” became distant and began calling her “Mother” or “Regent.” 215 279 Shen Manzhi's later account places her and Lu Yuyan at the center of Ye Chen's birth and early family secret. 293

Nancheng

After arriving in Nancheng, Ye Chen pursued control of the Four Great Families and treated relationships as assets for his rise. He secretly monitored Gu Xiyue's computer, hacked the surveillance system, entered her office, and cracked her laptop password in order to obtain information useful for taking over the Gu family. 9 30

He inserted himself into Gu Xiyue's life by claiming he would protect her, but exposed knowledge of her private plans that he should not have possessed. Gu Xiyue rejected his advances and challenged his assumption that she needed his protection. 8 9 During the confrontation, Ye Chen defeated Fei Yangyao's bodyguards before withdrawing when Gu Xiyue called the police. 9 10

Ye Chen was later detained for seven days after acting arrogantly toward police. While he was unavailable, Fei Yangyao impersonated him to advance several of Ye Chen's intended storylines, including Chen Xiaoxiao's treatment. 30 32 63

Captivity and Escape

Ji Gangji's group abducted Ye Chen after mistakenly linking him to the abandoned-factory incident. Ji Gangji interrogated and tortured him, while drugs including Black Lust, Black Burn, and later Black Flirt suppressed his cultivation and drained his Yang energy. 77 94

Brother Jie kept Ye Chen captive and repeatedly broke his attempts to escape. Ye Chen initially swore revenge, but prolonged coercion, fear, and the return of his Yang energy gradually made him dependent on Brother Jie and willing to remain in captivity to cultivate faster. 129 130 133 134

By secretly recovering his strength and cultivating accumulated Yang energy, Ye Chen reached Martial Disciple level. He escaped Hong Song through superior speed, though a poisoned kunai wounded him during the pursuit. 134 136

Fugitive Period

After escaping, Ye Chen became increasingly suspicious of Jiu Yun, Mo Yuan, Lu Yuyan, and Fei Yangyao. Seeing Jiu Yun with Fei Yangyao reinforced his belief that his former subordinates had betrayed him. 229 243

Surveillance later showed Ye Chen injured, moving with an unfamiliarly hesitant gait, and concealing a bleeding wound on his back. 236 Testimony from Brother Jie indicated that Ye Chen had been drugged, abused, and subjected to events that may have included sexual assault; afterward, Ye Chen was physically transformed into a woman and could not return to his former body. Ye Chen is arrogant, possessive, and deeply self-assured in his identity as the Dragon King. He assumes Gu Xiyue belongs with him, presents himself as her inevitable protector, and expects others to recognize his eventual status and power. 8 10
