Background
A Jiu was raised by the Dragon King Palace alongside other girls. A masked instructor taught them that their families had abandoned them and that their bodies and souls existed solely to serve the Dragon King. A poison embedded within her Internal Energy enforces this conditioning: thoughts of disloyalty to the Dragon King can activate it, spread through her meridians, and kill her. 69 369
Before meeting Fei Yangyao, she served as one of Ye Chen's four guards and was their strongest martial artist. Despite her exceptional talent, she was considered slow at processing information and often misunderstood ordinary situations. 1 13
Fei Yangyao first meets her after hitting her with his car. A Jiu is more concerned about a roasted sweet potato than her injuries, and repeatedly misunderstands his words about “eating” her. 1 After Ye Chen disappears, her fear of abandonment drives her to seek Fei Yangyao's help. He promises that she can stay with him even if Ye Chen no longer wants her. 29
A memory triggered by discussion of family causes A Jiu to recall the Dragon King Palace's indoctrination. She asks Fei Yangyao whether she may call him “brother”; his acceptance suppresses the pain that should have followed this act of intimacy. 69 Over time, she chooses to remain with Fei Yangyao rather than return to Ye Chen, eventually stating that she will live with her brother and no longer needs to care about Ye Chen. 122 255
Appearance
A Jiu is an adult woman with an innocent, youthful presentation and a distinctive water-blue color scheme. She is often mistaken for someone younger because of her demeanor and memory loss. 138
- Long, semi-transparent water-blue hair. 13
- Water-blue eyes. 13
- Frequently wears light-blue, robe-like dresses. 13
- Also wears pink bunny pajamas while staying at the Fei villa. 53
- Her unusual blue hair makes her easily identifiable to enemies searching for her. 78
Personality
A Jiu is candid, literal-minded, and emotionally transparent. She says what she thinks, does not normally lie, and often struggles to process more than one idea at a time. 1 Her misunderstandings can be embarrassing, but they are never malicious.
She has a profound fear of abandonment, especially when Ye Chen disappears or when she must sleep alone. Physical closeness with Fei Yangyao helps her feel safe, and she becomes intensely attached to him after he treats her with patience and consistency. 29 32 53
Despite her naivety, A Jiu is empathetic and protective. She worries about stray animals, shares food when she thinks someone is uncomfortable, and will immediately fight to defend Fei Yangyao from perceived threats. 38 137 168
- Loves food and eats in unusually large quantities. 70
- Is easily persuaded with snacks, especially as rewards for studying. 163
- Enjoys Qing Dynasty palace dramas and copies their speech, etiquette, and ideas of relationships. 38 67
- Has a strong affinity for dogs and treats Xiao Jiu as a companion. 39 44
- Can show tsundere tendencies, such as reluctantly offering her watermelon juice to Jiang Anran while visibly hoping not to lose it. 137
Abilities & Skills
Martial Arts
A Jiu is a highly gifted combatant and the strongest of Ye Chen's original guards. Her apparent lack of sophistication conceals formidable speed, strength, and instinctive combat ability. 1 13
- Defeats Ji Gangji's subordinates with unconventional but effective movements. 51
- Protects Su Yao and factory hostages while obeying Fei Yangyao's order to let Ji Gangji escape. 51
- Fights Lu Yuyan with killing intent, forcing a Martial Ancestor to evade rather than directly overpower her. 167
- Intercepts Ye Chen's full-powered Martial Ancestor attack to protect Fei Yangyao. 266
- Suffers near-fatal meridian damage after being struck by Ye Chen's Yang energy. 267
Wisdom Tide Drunken Dream Art
A Jiu practices the Wisdom Tide Drunken Dream Art, which she initially misnames “Fierce Chase Basket Thrust.” Unlike ordinary cultivation techniques, it appears to grow passively. 138
- Her cultivation increases when she studies, spends time with her “sisters,” or stays with Fei Yangyao. 138
- Formal instruction causes a sudden, rapid increase in her fighting strength. 138
- Her enhanced strength eventually approaches the Martial Ancestor threshold. 262
Life-Force Overdraft Technique
When Fei Yangyao is injured by Lu Yuyan, A Jiu forcibly accelerates herself to prevent the attacker from escaping. 168

- Lets her catch Lu Yuyan despite the latter fleeing at full speed. 168
- Damages or consumes her life force, leaving her exhausted afterward. 168
Memory and Learning Recovery
A Jiu has lost much of her prior education despite having graduated from high school. Fei Yangyao teaches her elementary knowledge to rebuild her foundation. 138
- Learns Chinese characters and mathematics through patient instruction. 138
- Shows improved reasoning by recognizing Shen Yuanwan from a photograph and contextual clues. 234
- Demonstrates unexpected navigational ability by following Jiang Anran's hand-drawn map to a noodle shop. 226
- Her growing intelligence becomes noticeable to Ye Chen, who begins suspecting that she has changed fundamentally. 243
Companion

- Ye Chen — Former young master and Dragon King whom she once served with absolute loyalty. Her attachment gradually shifts away from him after living with Fei Yangyao. 1 121 255
- Lu Yuyan — “Sister Yuyan” from the Dragon King Palace. A Jiu recognizes her after fighting her and insists she apologize for injuring Fei Yangyao. 169 170
- Jiang Anran — Older sister figure at the Fei villa. Jiang Anran accompanies and helps care for A Jiu during Ye Chen's disappearance. 31 137
- Chen Xiaoxiao — A Jiu calls her “Young Miss” and tries to help her remain in the Fei villa. 137
