Background / History

Langya Xing grew up as one of three candidates for the Langya Family’s next Family Head. His childhood was marked by open and covert succession struggles with his cousins, Langya Xin and Langya Jie. His younger sister, Langya Xun, became his greatest advantage because of her extraordinary ability to perfectly recall and interpret martial manuals after seeing them once. 31

After Xing mastered the difficult Pure Lotus Heart Sutra, an intruder targeted Xun rather than him. Although the family guardians arrived, her dantian was crippled and her tongue was damaged by true qi, leaving her unable to cultivate or speak. Xing suspects that Xin and Jie were responsible, as they benefited most from Xun’s removal from the succession struggle. 31

He later became involved in Great Yan’s court politics. Working with the Great Yan Emperor, he sent household servants to assassinate the Carefree Prince, intending to reclaim something Prince Yan possessed that belonged to the Langya Family. When the servants failed, Xing called in Master Dehua of Tianlong Temple through a favor owed to his family. 6 12 25

Langya Xing is a handsome young man most often dressed in spotless white or moon-white brocade robes. His composed bearing, pale features, and star-like eyes create an aloof, almost untouchable impression. 11 31 32

Personality

Langya Xing initially presents himself as cold, indifferent, and openly contemptuous of authority. He treats the Great Yan Emperor as an inferior despite addressing him formally, dismisses Langya City’s elders as sycophants, and sees secular imperial power as insignificant beside true martial forces. 12 40

His harsh exterior conceals strong affection for Langya Xun. He is visibly softened by memories of her, holds lasting resentment over her crippling, and reacts fiercely when others disrespect or endanger her. 31 83

Xing values martial advancement above easy success. He seeks difficult opponents to break his own bottleneck, recognizes that his fixation on “purity” has hindered his cultivation, and advises Mu Bai against relying on Innate Pills for a forced breakthrough. 31 33 39

Despite his arrogance, he can be considerate and generous toward people he accepts. He protects a child from a runaway horse, gives Mu Bai cultivation resources and protective equipment, and sincerely celebrates Mu Bai’s acceptance as the Grand Elder’s disciple. 30 40 46 53

As the Langya Family’s strongest young representative, Xing fights Nangong Yan after Langya Xin and Langya Jie are defeated. He uses the Pure Lotus Heart Sutra to overcome Nangong Yan, but Nangong Yan attempts to poison him with hidden needles until Mu Bai intervenes. 83 84 85
