Background / History
Li Family prodigy
Li Nanbei was the Li Family's most prominent young talent and a renowned mech prodigy of the Emerald Star Region. He graduated from Migratory Bird Academy's mecha major at seventeen, entered the Imperial Military Academy, and trained under a major military figure for more than two years. His occasional business acumen also contributed to fears that the Red Hat Snake Group would eventually surpass the Tri-Alliance Group. 14 32
He and Su Xiao were childhood sweethearts. Though they continued to correspond after his departure from the Emerald Star Region, Su Xiao felt increasingly unfamiliar with the person he became. 15
After the Deepwater Fortress bombing and his father's murder, Li Nanbei abandoned his military career path to return home. He insisted that he sought neither political power nor profit, only the settlement of “personal grudges.” 90
Military training and the Mordo operation
General He Sicheng regarded Li Nanbei as his most promising student and arranged for Luo Tiger to accept him as a disciple and potential successor. Luo Tiger considered him a rare genius and a “true soldier,” valuing his soldierly qualities over political usefulness. 131 141
Li Nanbei joined the hazardous nineteen-Mecha landing operation on Mordo. His Mecha was shot down, leaving him the sole survivor of his squad; he emerged injured in the Northern Hemisphere with his communications equipment destroyed. Rather than blindly following the failed original mission, he decided to hunt Nicholas, the Wizard responsible for the massacre. 144 148
On Mordo, he met Yan Xiaoliu and repaired the overheating power system of Yan's old Mecha in roughly five minutes, also removing its speed limiter to improve its escape capability. He later travelled with Yan Xiaoliu and, despite the crisis, remained composed enough to be remembered for his grace and calm. 148 157
Li Nanbei and Ronan briefly fought alongside one another in the Mordo Forest and jointly killed the Wizard. Their cooperation could have made them friends, but their later personal conflict made that possibility impossible. 176
H3 Squad and the Mecha League
With the Red Hat Snake Group in bankruptcy liquidation after the destruction of Deepwater Fortress, Li Nanbei returned with several loyal comrades from the First Star Region and joined the H3 Squad. He aimed to win the championship, restore the Li Family's reputation, and secure sponsorship opportunities for its remaining businesses. 213
Under his leadership, H3 achieved an eleven-game winning streak and became the dominant team of the Blue Sea A4 League. Li Nanbei also dominated the All-Star Game in a Thunder God Mecha and received the MVP award. 213 216
His Mecha League style was rooted in military combat: tough, steady, patient, and decisive, with no obvious weakness. He could alternate between primary damage and assault roles; in the Wanderer Mecha, his predictive control helped H3 crush Fortress three-to-zero. 219 234
Revenge against Ronan
Li Nanbei discovered that Yuan was Ronan and believed Ronan had killed his father and taken Su Xiao from him. He announced that his revenge plan would unfold on March 4th, the day of the H3–Begonia match. 229
His initial Thunder God duel against Ronan ended in a draw because both Mechas were scrapped. Li Nanbei privately stated that real Mechas without sports restrictions would have allowed him to kill Ronan. 233
He pressed Ronan hard in their rematch, but Ronan's breakthroughs and fusion of multiple fighting styles reversed the advantage. Li Nanbei lost their third confrontation in eleven seconds, with Ronan retaining 40% defense. 234 235
After the defeat, Li Nanbei used the live broadcast to accuse the Bai Family and Ronan, cooperated with the Tidal Organization's prearranged gymnasium lockdown, and attacked Ronan directly. His revenge became a public, desperate gamble. 236 239
Transformation, apparent death, and resurrection
Li Nanbei's body underwent secret Military Department modification using Evil God genes. In full transformation, he became a half-snake, half-mantis monster with immense strength, speed, regeneration, and defense; he could tear open a sports-standard Mecha cockpit with his bare hands. 237 238 305
Ronan eventually killed Li Nanbei during their battle at the Treistan City gymnasium, piercing his defense with the Qilin Arm, Clear Eye, and Light Sword. The public saw Li Nanbei's body revert to human form after his death. 240 241
The Military Department marked his body for incineration and revoked his proof of survival, but a top-secret file subsequently listed a reborn Soldier No. 47. 243
As Soldier No. 47, he had lost most of his memories and followed assigned missions with little autonomy. He killed Yan Xiaoliu because Yan was marked as a target, but hearing the name “Li Nanbei” caused visible confusion and helped awaken his independent consciousness. 268 305
Ronan captured him and learned that the First Plan had combined human and Evil God genes to create soldiers with extraordinary resurrection abilities. Unlike other conditioned soldiers, Li Nanbei retained enough self-awareness to fear death and cooperate in exchange for answers about his past. 305 308
Appearance
Before his transformation, Li Nanbei was a handsome young man whose calm, composed bearing remained noticeable even while stranded on Mordo. During his confrontation with Ronan, his appearance deteriorated into an increasingly inhuman form. 148 157 237
- Often described as handsome and graceful, with a composed, soldierly presence. 157
- During his revenge plan, he appeared exhausted, unshaven, and smelling of alcohol. 229
- Mutation began with lengthening blade-like nails, emerald-green scales, dishevelled hair, and a putrid odor. 237
- Full transformation produced a half-snake, half-mantis monstrous body with mantis-like forelimbs and regenerative tongue tissue. 238
- Following resurrection, he was described as a tall masked man carrying a Super Energy Pulse Rifle. 303
Personality
Li Nanbei was calm, analytical, and unwilling to follow orders blindly when circumstances made them unworkable. On Mordo, after his communications equipment was destroyed, he independently reassessed his mission and chose to pursue Nicholas instead. 148
He strongly identified as a soldier rather than a politician. Even when the Li Family collapsed, he claimed no interest in power and returned only because of his personal grievances. 90
His father's death, the destruction of Deepwater Fortress, and Su Xiao's departure gradually turned his resolve into obsession. He was willing to sacrifice his public standing, career, and body in pursuit of revenge against Ronan. 229 233 236
After resurrection, his personality was markedly different: frightened of death, uncertain of his identity, and aware that he knew little beyond killing. He eventually stated that he was neither Li Nanbei nor Soldier No. 47, but simply himself. 305 354
Abilities & Skills
Mecha Piloting
Li Nanbei is an elite Mecha Pilot whose real-combat military experience gives him control beyond ordinary league competitors.
- Reached Level 7 Mecha Pilot status at a young age and later surpassed Level 9. 6 232
- Pilots the Thunder God Mecha at an elite level and can force top opponents into mutual destruction even under sports restrictions. 233
- Uses a balanced military fighting style: steady, resilient, predictive, and capable of sudden aggression. 219 234
- Can fill both primary damage and assault roles in squad combat. 219
- His high-level control is partly constrained by sports-standard Light Mechas, which cannot fully display his real-combat advantage. 232 233
Mecha Repair
Li Nanbei is highly skilled in mechanical repair and modification.
- Won first place in a Military Region Competition related to Mecha repair. 148
- Repaired Yan Xiaoliu's Mecha power system in approximately five minutes. 148
- Disabled a speed limiter to increase a damaged Mecha's escape speed, at the cost of reduced lifespan. 148
Martial Arts and Physical Combat
Before his resurrection, Li Nanbei possessed formidable Martial Arts Technique training in addition to his piloting ability.
- His Martial Arts Technique aura was strong enough for Ronan to recognize during their confrontation. 229
- His transformed body could physically breach Mecha armor and shred simulated terrain. 236 240
- After resurrection and memory loss, he no longer remembered Martial Arts Techniques and fought mainly through instinct, reaction speed, and physical strength. 305
Evil God Gene Transformation
Li Nanbei was one of the few survivors of the Military Department's First Plan, which fused human and Evil God genes.
- Can transform into a monstrous combat form with exceptional strength, resilience, and defense. 237 240
- Can regenerate his severed tongue, preventing a simple strike at his apparent weak point from ending the fight. 238
- His full transformation increases strength and defense but reduces his speed. 240
- The monster within him normally emerges when his life is threatened. 305
- The transformation left him vulnerable to the Pig Slaughtering Sword's Evil God-targeting Sword Intent. 238
Resurrection
The First Plan granted Li Nanbei abnormal survival and rebirth capabilities.
- He returned as Soldier No. 47 after being publicly killed by Ronan. 241 243
- He does not understand the exact mechanism of his resurrection and suspects his memories were rewritten. 305
- His reborn self can be controlled through implanted nano bombs. 306
