We had considered freeing those Human Brain Array Mainframes from the very beginning. Since the Merova People relied on the special properties of souls to control starships, they had not completely destroyed the souls corresponding to those Human Brain Arrays. They had merely suppressed their activity to an extremely low level. In other words, those Human Brain Arrays could still be revived.
However, actually reviving them would involve quite a few problems.
The technology of merging multiple consciousnesses and bringing them back from the dead as a new individual was not exactly anything novel. There were plenty of examples right around us, the most memorable being Sandora's former adjutant and the current commander-in-chief of the Vengeance Fleet: Grand Warlord pl15. He was a collective-consciousness reborn. Those commanders who had followed Sandora for years, then died on the battlefield and could not be revived, had voluntarily abandoned their independent personalities in order to continue fighting for their Queen. They chose to be reborn as a composite consciousness and return to the front lines. The Grand Warlord's legendary experience made him a classic Shilin-style heroic officer: loyal, valiant, self-sacrificing, devoting everything to the Empire and his sovereign, never stopping before victory. But his experience could not be replicated among mortal races outside the Shilin Apostles.
There were reasons Shilin Apostles could return to the battlefield after death in the form of merged consciousnesses. Their souls were special: powerful, resilient, and filled with an unyielding will. Even after death, as long as the soul remained, a Shilin Apostle could retain a complete self. And for a worthwhile goal, that soul could achieve it at any cost, including abandoning itself. Secondly, Shilin Apostles were a race in which every individual grew up within the Spiritual Network. Their minds were separate yet unified. Even while
