The prototypes had originally been weapons designed to fight the Abyss. This did not surprise Sandora or me in the slightest. In fact, vague related impressions existed in the core memories of the Shilin Apostles as well. The apostles' first mission: fight the Abyss. It was deeply engraved into their Thought Cores almost like a racial instinct. The Shilin Apostles' very form of life also proved this point: all their talents and ways of thinking served war. They could be called a species precisely tailored for warfare, so I was not at all surprised by the purpose for which the prototypes had ultimately been designed.
Yet these mechanical soldiers, originally meant only to fight the Abyss, had eventually become the heirs to civilization, replacing the old Shilin People—so many things must have happened back then. Anses mentioned that decision to hand civilization over to another race as if it were nothing, but anyone with eyes could see how astonishing such a decision was. It required not only foresight and wisdom, but an entire race's acceptance of a dark and final road.
Could you imagine what circumstances would make humans on Earth create artificial humans stronger than themselves, then resolve to leave the stage of civilization alongside all humanity and hand human civilization over to their own creations? That was what the Shilin People of that era had done.
"That decision was indeed difficult." Anses naturally knew what the expressions on Sandora's face and mine meant. He nodded calmly. "The new government endured immense pressure, as
