"Was Soul Resonance complete already?"
I felt nothing unusual about myself; only the brief illusion from moments ago remained vivid in my memory. Thinking back on it, that illusion had been so real that Viska's fragrance seemed to still linger on my chest—but it had only been an illusion. From the perspective of onlookers like Sandora, the two people undergoing Soul Resonance had never moved at all. That ambiguous ten-second embrace had never happened.
"I don't know..." Sandora looked Viska and me over from head to toe. She was an expert in Soul Studies, but only knew a little about divine arts. "It feels like your souls made brief contact. In that case, Soul Resonance should be complete."
I moved around a little and felt no discomfort at having another person in my soul. Nor did I know where Viska was now—could she really be hidden inside my soul, as she had said? Then why couldn't I feel her?
Just as I was thinking that, a voice suddenly spoke in my mind. "Do you think Soul Resonance is possession or something?! What kind of feeling are you expecting—can you normally feel your own soul?"
That voice was unmistakably Viska's, yet it was completely different from the mental conversations we usually had through a psychic link. That voice did not come "from someone else"; it came from my own thoughts!
It was as though I had suddenly developed split personalities for an instant. A certain part of "my" will seemed to spontaneously become active, then formed that sentence which had originally belonged to Viska. I didn't feel that the voice in my mind belonged to Viska at all. Instead, it felt like I had inexplicably muttered something to myself in my own head!
If I hadn't still retained half my sanity
