But if it were The Black Organization's research facility, who knew whether Gin would fly over in a plane and fire a fresh missile at him if he went there and abducted the "Sherry" Gin was always talking about?
With that thought, Jiang Hang decisively gave up on the idea.
"Then I'll make you a disguise that can last longer for now. Tomorrow, I'll help you rent a room near the art museum. For tonight, come back with me first." To avoid any suspicion, Jiang Hang hurriedly added, "My office has several guest rooms that my assistants use for their afternoon breaks. They're all women, so you don't need to worry."
Jiang Hang's explanation seemed somewhat unnecessary, but Miyano Akemi still managed to force a smile onto her face.
As far as Jiang Hang was concerned, the turmoil caused by the One Billion Yen Robbery had more or less temporarily subsided.
As for how The Black Organization would investigate whether Miyano Akemi was dead or alive, that was no longer something Jiang Hang needed to consider.
The next morning, when Koharu Yoshino and Shizuka Sakaki arrived at work and saw a short-haired beauty wearing gloves walk out of the office guest room, the breakfasts in their hands nearly fell to the floor.
"Y-you are?" Koharu Yoshino stared at her in surprise.
In an instant, countless words' worth of unspeakable and mysterious scenarios filled her mind.
"Hello, I'm Nagasawa Masami." Miyano Akemi smiled at them.
Her current appearance had been slightly adjusted by Jiang Hang. Though it did not differ greatly from how she had originally looked—her hair had merely been cut short, and a few details of her face subtly altered—it made her seem like an entirely different person. Even she herself could not recognize who she had been.
Moreover, this disguise would not be ruined by a simple wash with water. The only inconvenience was that it needed to be redone every few days.
For now, she naturally had to rely on Jiang Hang to help her, but once she learned these disguise techniques from him in the future, she would be able to disguise herself.
As for the name, Jiang Hang had naturally chosen it for her. She still remembered how, while disguising her, he had suddenly given her the name Nagasawa Masami.
There were no shortage of women named "Masami" in Japan, so Miyano Akemi did not care why Jiang Hang had chosen that name for her.
From this day onward, the name Nagasawa Masami would likely stay with her for quite a long time.
After Miyano Akemi gave them a simple explanation, the two girls understood why she had come out of the office guest room.
After discussing it with Miyano Akemi, Jiang Hang had given her the identity of a newly hired administrator at the Beika Art Museum. Since she had only arrived in Tokyo from out of town the previous night and had nowhere to stay, Jiang Hang had let her spend the night in one of the office guest rooms.
As for the finer details and the character profile of "Nagasawa Masami," Jiang Hang, Miyano Akemi, and Conan had gradually built a complete backstory through their discussion the previous night.
Of course, they would still need to further reinforce Miyano Akemi's false identity in the future, ensuring that The Black Organization would not discover it.
Chapter 74: Miyano Akemi's Potential, Rope Dart Function Unlocked
And so, Miyano Akemi took up the position of administrator at the Beika Art Museum.
Naturally, it was only an easy job. Her daily duties consisted of opening and closing the museum in the morning and evening, as well as checking whether any of the artworks inside showed signs of damage.
Jiang Hang could now see Miyano Akemi's talents and hidden potential through the Industry Template.
As expected of the older sister of the genius scientist Ai Haibara, Miyano Akemi's potential panel showed that she possessed exceptional talent in many areas. It was even the first time Jiang Hang had seen an entire page filled with potential entries.
After all, the system only displayed talents with at least intermediate potential.
According to the system's definition of abilities, beginner level represented the level an ordinary person could reach after learning the proper methods and mastering them through practice. It could be said to be the limit attainable by an ordinary person with no talent. Abilities at intermediate level or above required a certain degree of aptitude to achieve.
People like Koharu Yoshino and Shizuka Sakaki each possessed around fifteen potential talents.
That already made them fairly talented among ordinary people, and they had also found the right direction for their abilities.
Jiang Hang had looked through the talents of the other employees at his art museum. Most had fewer than ten, and if Jiang Hang did not point them out, they might never discover in their entire lives that they possessed quite remarkable talent in some field they had never even considered.
For instance, Jiang Hang had spotted an employee with advanced agricultural potential.
When he asked the employee about it, he learned that the man had dropped out before finishing high school and was now working as a cleaner at the art museum.
When it came to talent, there were simply too many uncertainties.
Yet Miyano Akemi possessed a full twenty-seven talents at a rough count!
Eleven of them were advanced potentials, while the rest were intermediate.
Advanced leadership potential, advanced deduction potential, advanced artistic potential... Looking at all those advanced potentials on her, even Jiang Hang could not help drooling a little.
Unfortunately, no matter how great a person's potential was, it meant nothing if it could not be developed.
Perhaps Miyano Akemi herself had never realized just how much potential she possessed, or perhaps it was due to her personality. In any case, not much of her potential had been realized so far, and it was likely that The Black Organization had forcibly driven out what little she had developed over the years.
Jiang Hang knew that if Miyano Akemi had truly been able to realize her potential while in The Black Organization—even just a small half of it—her status there would likely not have been low, and she would not have needed his protection.
He had considered letting Miyano Akemi develop more of her potential at the art museum, but then he remembered that she was only working there to avoid being discovered by The Black Organization.
If he told her to work hard at improving and developing her potential now, she probably would not have much motivation.
According to his rigid system's principle of "the harder you work, the stronger you become," if he assigned Miyano Akemi a deduction or biology ability, it would probably take several years before her level in those areas could improve.
After thinking it over, Jiang Hang ultimately assigned Miyano Akemi's advanced artistic potential. At least she worked in an art museum every day, so with an art skill assigned, it should improve somewhat.
This time, saving Miyano Akemi had been judged by the system as a three-star case, and he had received a system reward.
The reward this time was the unlocking of the Rope Dart branch for the hidden blade.
The Rope Dart was a new feature introduced in Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Similar grappling-gun devices also appeared in works such as Batman.
Once this feature was unlocked, assassins who had previously been forced to painstakingly climb walls and parkour suddenly began soaring through the air and moving across rooftops.
Before, getting somewhere by climbing alone could take several minutes, and getting stuck for half an hour at a difficult spot was perfectly normal.
But after obtaining the Rope Dart, no matter where he needed to go, he could secure it in place and—whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—fly straight up in three seconds.
This thing could indeed provide Jiang Hang with quite a few conveniences. In his exploration missions, many "golden feathers" had been placed in dangerous locations. Previously, he could only retrieve them carefully and cautiously, but now that he had the Rope Dart, his speed at collecting golden feathers would increase greatly.
Jiang Hang was now figuring out how to use the Rope Dart.
What Jiang Hang had to complain about, however, was that this damned system had merely unlocked the Rope Dart function for him this time and thrown in a user manual. It had not given him any Rope Dart Proficiency skill at all.
According to the system: You have already mastered advanced Hidden Blade Proficiency. The Rope Dart is a device modified and installed based on the Hidden Blade. Just follow the instructions and practice a little, and you should be able to obtain the Rope Dart Proficiency skill.
Even if something really went wrong during practice, with Leap of Faith, at worst he would suffer a fracture. The system would guarantee his life safety to a certain extent.
Only true training and hardship could cultivate a true legendary assas... detective. That had been the system's latest daily slip of the tongue.
So Jiang Hang could only curse the dog system for not letting people live while heading outside the art museum to study the Rope Dart.
Though this was merely an additional function installed on the Hidden Blade, its maximum firing range could reach over a hundred meters. Once secured, the thread—thinner than steel wire and made of some unknown material—could effortlessly carry several hundred pounds directly to wherever the Rope Dart was anchored.
In Assassin's Creed, the Rope Dart was secured by a hook at its very tip. In Jiang Hang's hands, though, that hook had become a miniature suction cup that looked remarkably high-tech.
Honestly, Jiang Hang did not have a fear of heights, but when he looked at that thread as thin as a strand of hair and the suction cup no bigger than a one-yuan coin, he still felt a little uneasy—even knowing that anything produced by the system was guaranteed to be high quality.
After several experiments, however, he discovered that the Rope Dart was somewhat similar to Spider-Man's web-shooters. The difference was that Spider-Man did not need to retrieve his webbing, whereas Jiang Hang had to reel his thread back in. That alone basically eliminated any possibility of Jiang Hang becoming one of Japan's "Four Hundred Aunties" in the future.
In other respects, however, such as using the Rope Dart to retrieve objects or attack, it could do those things as well.
Like right now, Jiang Hang was happily training himself to use the Rope Dart to retrieve a bottle of water sitting on the ground ten meters away.
He had even completely forgotten that the Rope Dart's real function was for climbing buildings, not for playing claw machine.
Conan Delivered Himself to the Enemy?
After a whole day of claw-machine-style practice, Jiang Hang felt that he had thoroughly mastered how to use the Rope Dart.
Then, during his first attempt to use it to climb to the top of the art museum, he was gloriously injured.
Of course, it was not from a fall. The quality of system-produced tools was certainly guaranteed.
It happened when he anchored the Rope Dart to the top of the art museum. He failed to control his body and let the Rope Dart yank him straight upward. In the process, his body had an intimate encounter with the art museum wall.
Although the art museum was not especially tall, and Jiang Hang was already rather tough by ordinary standards, that intimate contact still left the skin on his arms and thighs scraped raw.
"No wonder the assassins in the game used their feet to maintain their balance when using the Rope Dart. How did I forget something so important... Good thing I didn't hurt my face, or that would've been a huge loss," Jiang Hang muttered as he applied the red antiseptic he had prepared beforehand to himself on the roof of the art museum.
He was behind the art museum. Beyond that were an underground parking lot and another indoor swimming pool, so no one normally paid attention to this place. Jiang Hang also used Eagle Eye every so often to check the surroundings, so there was no need to worry about being discovered.
After applying the medicine, Jiang Hang stood at the edge of the art museum roof and looked down.
It was only about twenty meters to the ground from here, not particularly high.
In one corner, Jiang Hang had even hauled over a cartload of hay and piled it up. He had specifically prepared it for practicing Leap of Faith in the future.
Jiang Hang glanced at the haystack, spread his arms, and struck a pose as though he were about to jump straight down.
But after holding the pose for a while, Jiang Hang rubbed the thigh he had just treated with red antiseptic. He seemed to recall the embarrassing assassin in the first Assassin's Creed who had accidentally broken his leg during a Leap of Faith, and his body involuntarily shuddered. He obediently returned to the art museum through the skylight on the top floor.
"I got hurt by accident this time. My first Leap of Faith can't be this careless. Next time for sure, next time," Jiang Hang muttered. On his way back to his office, he ran into Miyano Akemi, who was being shown around the art museum by an older employee.
"President... no, hello, Mr. Jiang Hang," the employee guiding Miyano Akemi through the art museum greeted Jiang Hang.
He had initially been about to call him President out of habit, but then remembered that his new boss seemed to have said not to call him that, so he hurriedly corrected himself.
Jiang Hang knew him as well. His name was Iijima Sota, one of the most responsible and diligent employees at the art museum whom Director Ochiai had mentioned to him in prison. After Jiang Hang took over the art museum, he saw that Iijima Sota had potential in "Advanced Appraisal" and "Intermediate Operations." After confirming that there was no one more suitable in the art museum, he promoted him to acting director.
As long as he did not make any mistakes, he would become the official director after some time.
Jiang Hang asked him about the art museum's situation over the past few days. Ever since Jirokichi Suzuki had advertised the jewelry exhibition two weeks from now during television prime time, visitor traffic at the art museum had nearly reached its highest point since it opened.
Iijima Sota greatly admired Jiang Hang now. Though Jiang Hang rarely involved himself in art museum affairs, he had only taken over for such a short time and had already brought such a major exhibition to the Beika Art Museum, which had not held any events in a long time.
As long as they could make this exhibition a success, Iijima Sota felt that he would not disappoint Director Ochiai's expectations of him.
"Keep up the good work. In a few days, there might be even more explosive news," Jiang Hang said, patting him on the shoulder. He was hinting at news concerning Kaito Kid, but Iijima Sota apparently did not think of Kaito Kid at all. He assumed that shortly after this jewelry exhibition ended, the Beika Art Museum would hold another new exhibition.
Of course, his understanding was not entirely wrong. Jiang Hang had originally intended to use Jirokichi Suzuki and Kaito Kid as his "ultimate toolman duo" to continuously bring popularity and attention to the Beika Art Museum.
After chatting with him about the art museum for a while, Jiang Hang nodded to Miyano Akemi as well, without saying much else.
Her most important task during this period was to keep a low profile. Unless necessary, he would not take the initiative to speak with Miyano Akemi either.
Jiang Hang had originally planned to take a walk around the art museum before returning to the detective agency to slack off and recover from his injury. But only two days had passed when he saw Conan's name on the notice board again.
At first, Jiang Hang thought that Shinigami Elementary Schooler Conan had encountered another murder case, and he wondered whether he might have another chance to tag along on a case.
But when he saw the contents of the request, Jiang Hang's expression suddenly changed.
"The Black Organization has discovered my true identity and even tried to kidnap me to ask about Miyano Akemi's whereabouts. Although I escaped for the time being, I must hurry and inform Professor Agasa and Miyano Akemi!"
???
Jiang Hang stared blankly at the newly posted request on the notice board.
He checked it again. The contents were correct, and the client was indeed Conan.
Good heavens, could it be that his butterfly effect had caused The Black Organization to directly discover Conan's true identity?!
Were they really about to go straight into the final showdown with The Black Organization right at the beginning?
Wasn't the plan to drag this out until the late game, until I had a full build and could wipe them out in one wave? Why hadn't I even had time to buy my Mejai's yet, and my teammate was already feeding?
After seeing this request, he took two deep breaths and forcibly suppressed the shock in his heart.
This commission had been issued through the system. His system might be a real bastard, but it was reliable when it came to this sort of thing.
The key question now was whether The Black Organization had traced things back to him.
If they had already found out, then the people around him—not just Miyano Akemi, but also the two girls at the agency—would likely be in danger!
With that thought, Jiang Hang no longer cared about keeping his distance and immediately went after Miyano Akemi, who had already walked away.
Iijima Sota thought Jiang Hang had some more business to explain and was about to ask when Jiang Hang simply tossed out, "Sorry, I need to talk to Nagasawa about something," then gestured for Miyano Akemi to come with him.
Miyano Akemi seemed to read something from Jiang Hang's expression. Without hesitation, she followed in his footsteps.
All That Posturing Was for Nothing
In the president's office, Jiang Hang first called the agency and confirmed that nothing had happened there.
It seemed The Black Organization had not noticed the agency yet. He told Koharu Yoshino to lock both the agency and the iron gate downstairs, not open the door for anyone under any circumstances, and contact him immediately if anything happened.
After speaking to the girls at the agency, Jiang Hang turned to Miyano Akemi.
"What happened?" Having heard what Jiang Hang said while contacting Koharu Yoshino, Miyano Akemi had already sensed that something was wrong.
"I just received some intelligence. The Black Organization may have discovered Conan. I'm going over to check on him now. You stay in my office for the time being. It's for your safety," Jiang Hang reminded her.
When she heard that something might have happened to Conan, a trace of anxiety appeared on Miyano Akemi's face.
She knew the Organization's style well. They did not care whether their victims were adults or children. As long as they considered someone a threat to the Organization, they would eliminate them without hesitation.
She only saw Conan as an unusually mature boy, and she did not want him to get dragged into the Organization because of her.
"Should I come too...?" After hesitating for a moment, she still said to Jiang Hang, "After all, I'm their real target. If I end up dragging you all down because of me, then I'd rather go die at the Organization's hands right now."
Jiang Hang's expression became especially grave when he heard Miyano Akemi say that.
