Background / History

Nero is the reincarnation of Ni Lu, who died after stepping in to do the right thing and awoke as a female version of Nero from Devil May Cry. She retains memories of both lives and recognizes the Order of the Sword’s plan to use a Sparda descendant as the core of the Savior. 2

She was raised in Fortuna as an orphan and publicly performed the role of a devout Order believer. In reality, she never accepted the Order’s faith; she had memorized its scripture to maintain the disguise. Her adoptive brother Credo took on a parental role after the deaths of her adoptive parents, while Kyrie remained one of her closest companions. 2 30

After awakening in Agnus’s laboratory, Nero breaks free, learns of the Savior project, and commits herself to stopping the Order before Credo and Kyrie can be sacrificed to it. 2 5 She later leaves Fortuna’s restrictive expectations behind, hunts demons independently, and prepares to face future crises beyond the island. 30

Nero’s travels repeatedly carry her into other worlds and Singularities through Yamato’s spatial power. She becomes involved with Chaldea, the Little Garden Gift Games, alternate versions of her family, and conflicts involving Demon Kings, Heroic Spirits, angels, and demons. 33 193 415

Appearance

Nero is a slender young woman whose normal appearance initially includes blonde hair and blue eyes. Her appearance changes substantially with her awakenings, and her hair permanently becomes silver-white after her fully awakened Demon Form is released. 11 233

  • A golden, feathered vertical mutation originally extends from below her collarbone toward her heart; it emits blue light in rhythm with her heartbeat. 2
  • Her combat clothing often includes fitted trousers and a low neckline for access to Demonic Tools, drawing criticism in Fortuna. 30
  • Her complete Demon Form includes golden scale-feathers forming a crown and breastplate, dark-blue wing claws, a tail, luminous wing membranes, and silver-white hair. 229
  • Her Arrogance form has avian traits, including talons, dark green feathers, wings, and a peacock-like motif. 70
  • Her Lust form manifests rabbit ears used to receive the thoughts of people affected by her voice. 183

Personality

Nero is decisive, practical, and highly resistant to intimidation. She reacts to hostile or cryptic opponents with blunt sarcasm, including the silver-haired figure connected to Yamato, whom she kicks before declaring that she needs more power. 10

She is compassionate even when dealing with enemies. After defeating Echidna, Nero chooses not to kill the terrified Demon Lord and instead accepts her as a weapon. 11 She also protects civilians and allies during demon outbreaks, including Beatrice, Aine, Tomori, and Ranana. 33 94 100

Despite her confidence, Nero is conscious of her limitations. She seeks strength to protect others, worries about her inability to fully transform during her early battles, and adapts her tactics when facing stronger foes or unfamiliar weapons. 19 366 458
