Background

Before his Martial Soul awakening, Tang San cultivated the Mysterious Heaven Skill near Holy Soul Village when he abruptly suffered a physical collapse and felt that something important had been taken from him. In reality, Zu Zong had stolen his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline, reducing Tang San's inherited Blue Silver Grass to an ordinary Martial Soul and beginning a hatred that would define much of Tang San's life 2.

At his awakening, Tang San manifested ordinary Blue Silver Grass with Innate Full Soul Power. He also secretly awakened a second Martial Soul, the Clear Sky Hammer. Witnessing Zu Zong awaken the Blue Silver Emperor intensified his jealousy, and Tang San attempted to attack him before Old Jack restrained him 6 8.

Tang San entered Nuoding Academy under Yu Xiaogang's instruction. During his search for a first Soul Ring, Zu Zong secured the Datura Snake Tang San had intended to claim; Tang San instead received a low-quality Lazy Snake ring. Zu Zong later revealed that he had manipulated Yu Xiaogang into choosing that ring 29 170 400.

At Shrek Academy, Tang San became close to Meng Yiran after defeating her in a soul fight. He endured the dangerous absorption of the Man Faced Demon Spider's soul ring through sheer determination, only for Zu Zong to steal the External Soul Bone that should have emerged—the Eight Spider Lances 52. His growing rivalry with Zu Zong contributed to Shrek's defeat by the Imperial Fight Team and repeatedly damaged his confidence 81 85.

During the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament, Tang San revealed the Clear Sky Hammer and defeated Shui Bing'er's Ice Phoenix with Clear Sky Strike reinforced by Luan Pifeng. He subsequently defeated Feng Xiaotian through the thirty-six hammer strikes of Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer, but Shrek later lost to Zu Zong's Heaven Dou Royal Academy team 192 193 207 210.

After reaching rank 50, Tang Hao took Tang San to seek the Blue Silver Emperor's recognition. The Blue Silver King confirmed that Tang San had not inherited Ah Yin's bloodline and identified Zu Zong as the current Blue Silver Emperor. Tang Hao ordered Tang San to stop attaching rings to Blue Silver Grass, as the vast quality gap between it and the Clear Sky Hammer risked fatal Soul Ring backlash 299 300.

Tang San then trained the Clear Sky Hammer until he mastered Nine-Nine Return to One, the eighty-one-strike peak of Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer. Tang Hao sent him into Slaughter City for genuine life-or-death combat. Tang San achieved one hundred consecutive Hell Slaughter Arena victories, but could not obtain the Divine Slaughter's Domain because Hell Road had already been destroyed 324 366.

After leaving Slaughter City, Tang San arrived at Moonlight Pavilion to train under his aunt Tang Yuehua and control the killing intent he had accumulated. He was wanted by the Heaven Dou Empire for the death of Prince Xue Beng, and his time in Slaughter City left him scarred, disheveled, and markedly more violent 224 371 374.

Zu Zong later subjected Tang San to illusions, confiscated his hidden weapons, and disclosed his role in sabotaging Tang San's bloodline, first Soul Ring, and Slaughter City outcome. Tang San's hatred rose to extreme levels 399 400. After killing Yu Xiaogang following Tang San's claim that his teacher had assaulted him, Tang San publicly mutilated himself as a repudiation of his former mentor; he later remained consumed by revenge against Zu Zong and Spirit Hall 445 446 594.

Appearance

Tang San's appearance changes substantially over the story. As a child, he is described as blue-haired, muscular, and approximately 1.3 meters tall after his Martial Soul awakening 8. Following Slaughter City, he becomes difficult to recognize.

  • Blue hair after awakening, associated with his Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul 8.
  • A muscular build from early childhood onward 8.
  • Long, messy hair and a sallow complexion after Slaughter City 371.
  • A prominent scar running from his left forehead, across his nose, to his right cheek 371.
  • Blood-red eyes and an oppressive killing aura accumulated through Slaughter City 371.

Personality

Tang San is proud, competitive, and intensely sensitive to being surpassed. Though he can appear calm and reasonable around allies, his resentment toward Zu Zong begins almost immediately after his bloodline loss and develops into a fixation on reclaiming the status and future he believes were stolen from him 2 76 218.

He is also determined and exceptionally stubborn. He withstands the Man Faced Demon Spider's soul-ring absorption through pain and devotion to Meng Yiran, endures Tai Tan's pressure rather than falsely blame another person, and commits himself to mastering the Clear Sky Hammer after losing the chance to awaken the Blue Silver Emperor bloodline 52 126 300 324.

Later experiences leave him increasingly impulsive and vengeful. His killing intent, criminal status, physical trauma, and repeated manipulation by Zu Zong erode his restraint, culminating in an obsession with destroying Zu Zong and everything connected to him 371 400 594.

Abilities & Skills

Twin Martial Souls

Tang San possesses Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer. Although he retains Innate Full Soul Power, the loss of his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline leaves his Blue Silver Grass fundamentally inferior to the Clear Sky Hammer 6 299 300.

  • Blue Silver Grass — ordinary rather than Blue Silver Emperor-grade after Zu Zong steals his bloodline 2.
  • Clear Sky Hammer — his second Martial Soul and primary cultivation path after rank 50 6 300.
  • Limitation: Continuing to add high-level rings to Blue Silver Grass alongside the Clear Sky Hammer risks deadly Twin Martial Soul backlash 300.

Blue Silver Grass Soul Skills

  • First Soul Skill — produces damp, rotten, foul-smelling vines that induce severe nausea and vomiting rather than conventional restraint 181.
  • Second Soul Skill: Parasite — a troublesome single-target restraint skill 37.
  • Third Soul Skill: Spider Web Restraint — binds opponents, including Tai Long during their confrontation 167.
  • Fourth Soul Skill: Bat Wing Reincarnation — converts Blue Silver Grass into sixteen sharp rhombus-shaped fragments which Tang San uses as poisoned hidden weapons 210.
  • Limitation: His Blue Silver Grass is described as crippled; it grows increasingly difficult to cultivate and cannot safely keep pace with the Clear Sky Hammer 191 300.

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang San's Clear Sky Hammer is the stronger of his two Martial Souls and eventually becomes his principal path of cultivation 300.

  • First Soul Skill: Clear Sky Strike — enlarges the hammer and channels lightning-like force; combined with Luan Pifeng, it defeats the Ice Phoenix Martial Soul Fusion Skill 192.
  • Weapon Spirit True Body — manifests through Shrek's Seven-in-One Fusion Skill, enlarging the hammer to massive proportions 207.
  • Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer / Luan Pifeng — an escalating hammer technique; Tang San uses thirty-six strikes to defeat Feng Xiaotian and later masters the eighty-one-strike realm, Nine-Nine Return to One 193 324.
  • Limitation: His physical condition initially slows his hammer-technique progress, leaving him at sixty-four strikes after two years of training 298.

Tang Sect Secret Arts

Tang San employs techniques from the Tang Sect alongside his Martial Souls.

  • Mysterious Heaven Skill — his foundational cultivation method, practiced since childhood 2 52.
  • Purple Demon Eye — an eye-training art that improves perception and spiritual power 218 299.
  • Mystic Jade Hand — reinforces his hands for weapon handling and defense 210 224.
  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — a movement technique used to evade and reposition 167 224.
  • Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon — redirects force and disrupts an opponent's attacks 167 224.
  • Hidden-weapon techniques — allow him to turn Bat Wing Reincarnation's fragments into poisoned projectiles 210.
  • Limitation: Zu Zong can observe, imitate, and counter Tang San's secret arts, leaving Tang San's techniques far less decisive against his principal rival 210 218.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Godly Zhuge Crossbow — used to kill the Man Faced Demon Spider 52.
  • Zhuge Repeating Crossbow — a hidden weapon Tang San considers using against Zu Zong 37.
  • Sleeve Arrow — concealed during the Datura Snake incident to avoid exposing his hidden-weapon arsenal 27.
  • Soul-Chasing Projectile — used against the Strange Bird Soul Saint 225.
  • Tang Sect hidden weapons — later confiscated by Zu Zong while Tang San is trapped in an illusion 399.

Relationships

  • Tang Hao — Father and the Clear Sky Douluo. Tang Hao trains Tang San in the Clear Sky Hammer, guides his rank-50 breakthrough, and sends him to Slaughter City for combat experience 298 300 324.
  • Ah Yin — Mother and the previous Blue Silver Emperor. Tang San inherits Blue Silver Grass from her but not her Blue Silver Emperor bloodline 299 300.
  • Tang Yuehua — Aunt and Moonlight Pavilion's master. She teaches Tang San etiquette and music to temper his murderous aura 371 374.
  • Meng Yiran — Girlfriend and emotional support during the Man Faced Demon Spider soul-ring absorption; political pressure later forces her to sever ties with him 52 225 374.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Former teacher. Tang San initially respects him, but later resents him for the Lazy Snake Soul Ring and eventually kills him after alleging abuse 170 445.
  • Zu Zong — Principal rival and enemy. Zu Zong steals Tang San's bloodline and Eight Spider Lances, repeatedly defeats him, copies his secret arts, and manipulates key events in his life 2 52 210 400.
  • Tai Long — Initially treats Tang San as the young master connected to the Strength Clan, then turns against him after the clan's destruction 167.
  • Flender — Shrek Academy's dean. He confronts Tang San after Yu Xiaogang's death and attempts to prevent him from further self-harm 445 446.
