Background

Hizashi served as a high-level Hyuga combatant during the Third Great Ninja War. He briefly returned home for Neji's birth while bloodied and exhausted, but departed again almost immediately because the front-line situation was worsening. 1

As a Branch House member and its leader, Hizashi bore the Caged Bird curse mark. The disparity in wartime losses—roughly one hundred Branch House deaths against ten from the Main House—exposed the system's cost to both him and Yuzuru. 4

His relationship with Yuzuru initially became strained by the boy's maturity, open defiance of Branch House restrictions, and rapid growth. Hizashi attempted to humble him through the clan sparring tournament, yet he later protected Yuzuru from backlash and ultimately accepted his son's ability and ambitions. 9 11 12
