History
Yuzuru Hyuga initially regards the Rasengan as one of the techniques Jiraiya would likely reserve for his personal disciples. Although Yuzuru seeks instruction from Jiraiya, he chooses not to press for the technique himself. 91
After learning Naruto's identity and circumstances, Yuzuru assigns Jiraiya to train him and sets a specific requirement: Naruto must learn the Rasengan within two years. 111
Naruto's first attempts are unsuccessful. He relies on two Shadow Clones to help form the technique, but his poor chakra control causes the Rasengan to collapse before he can reach Tsunade. 113
During Orochimaru's attack, Naruto uses large numbers of Shadow Clones to repeatedly practice forming Rasengan. He ultimately succeeds and uses it to temporarily incapacitate Orochimaru. 114 By the time Naruto returns to Konoha, he openly claims mastery of both the Rasengan and Multiple Shadow Clone Technique. 121
Use and Limitations
- The technique is formed as a chakra sphere in the user's hand. 113 114
- Naruto initially requires Shadow Clones to assist with its formation. 113
- Insufficient chakra control can cause the incomplete technique to dissipate. 113
- Repeated clone-assisted training leaves Naruto severely dizzy. 114
- A successful strike was strong enough to temporarily incapacitate Orochimaru. 114
Known Users and Instructors
- Naruto Uzumaki — Learned the technique under Jiraiya's training; successfully used it against Orochimaru and later claimed mastery. 114 121
- Minato Namikaze — Identified as possessing an S-rank Rasengan alongside Flying Thunder God Technique. 53
- Jiraiya — Assigned by Yuzuru Hyuga to teach Naruto the Rasengan within two years. 111
Trivia
- Naruto calls the Rasengan a “super forbidden jutsu,” but Yuzuru corrects him, stating that it is “not quite” such a technique. 111
