Outside the Petrified Forest, Malchezaar cautiously kept his distance as he questioned Illidan ahead of him. But Star Hunter gestured for him to shut up. This cold Slayer apparently had no intention of speaking with him.
The Greater Demon had made a fool of himself. He began plotting how to entice this fellow into charging ahead later, thereby reducing the losses among his clan members. Then he saw Illidan make a listening gesture.
There seemed to be some movement nearby.
Malchezaar also sensed a gathering force of the Holy Light behind him. Terrified, he turned to look back, knowing that Diakum had likely sent an avatar over.

That was what Malchezaar thought, but in the next instant, the leaping Sargeras's Flame gathered behind him into a scorching demon-slaying blade. Before the Man'ari lord's drastically changing expression, it pierced straight through his heart.
Malchezaar screamed as Star Hunter's cold and cruel runes forced him to his knees.
He had wanted to struggle. He could have fought back—he was a Greater Demon who had fought for twenty thousand years, after all.
But at that moment, enlightenment struck Malchezaar. He suddenly seemed to understand why Illidan was doing this. After a moment of hesitation, beneath the threat of the deadly eye beams gathering in Illidan's eyes, he lowered his head and endured the pain as he accepted his fate.
