Background / History
Diakum began as a High Vindicator within the Eredar military system. While operating undercover around cultists and enemies of Eredar order, he was suspected of heresy and subjected to Ishana’s hypnosis and Mind Control interrogation regarding his time near Archimonde and Sarkir. 5 7
During the crisis on Argus, Diakum received the Holy Light’s blessing and formed his personal doctrine, Hand of Fate. He rejected blind religious obedience, maintaining that the Holy Light answered him because he wished to be a good person rather than because he offered faith alone. 14 19 His role in the battle against the Awakeners earned him promotion from Vindictor to Commodore despite his earlier misconduct. 16
After suffering catastrophic injuries during the Eredar’s flight from Argus, Diakum remained near death and fused with an external object. His coffin later became a source of dawn, sunlight, and dusk aboard the Genedar while he trained within his spiritual world. 43 45
On Draenor, Diakum emerged as a leading protector of the Draenei. He executed the traitorous Archbishop Othaar, purified Kara’s entropic fragments, and was selected to command the Draenei armed forces alongside the Great Prophet and Grand Executor Hutton. 75 He subsequently developed his understanding of light and darkness, using Shadowform in battle and offering Eredath guidance toward becoming a Light-Dark Twinborn. 106 133
Appearance
Diakum’s physical appearance changes dramatically with his power states. His manifested forms increasingly emphasize the coexistence of Holy Light and Void rather than a fixed mortal body.
- In Radiant Holy Spirit form, he becomes the sole light source in his surroundings; his Crown of Shadows transforms into a Crown of Light, and ten silver wings of light manifest behind him. 270
- His spiritual body can display light and shadow in equal, shifting patterns: when one limb is illuminated, another may be shadowed, moving with a harmonious rhythm rather than a rigid division. 668
- In Solar Incarnation, his human silhouette disappears beneath a solar corona, rings of multicolored light, and molten “Holy Light lava” flowing from Ashbringer. 524
Personality
Diakum is deeply suspicious of fanaticism and refuses to treat faith as a substitute for moral judgment. He openly criticizes the excesses of Holy Light factions and believes that power itself is neither righteous nor evil; what matters is how its wielder chooses to act. 19 178
Though he carries immense authority, Diakum is pragmatic and self-aware. He recognizes that the Holy Light amplifies devotion into potential fanaticism and deliberately walks into darkness to prevent himself from being assimilated by either primal force. 72 178 He later applies this belief to the Army of the Light, seeking to cure blind obedience rather than merely condemn its victims. 284 410
He is also protective of those under his care. He performs Lightforging to save Maraad, guides Eredath through a crisis of faith, supports Lelan’s future as an Eredar leader, and repeatedly treats redemption as possible even for former enemies such as Kazzak. 167 133 795 404
Abilities & Skills
Hand of Fate
Diakum’s personal Holy Light doctrine strengthens him at decisive moments when fate is at stake.
- Temporarily expands his Holy Power capacity to its maximum tolerable level and accelerates recovery to an extreme degree. 70 164
- Can raise him to lesser or high demigod-level combat power for a limited duration. 70 164
- Its use carries severe backlash, including prolonged weakness and Soul Weakness after overextension. 164 167
- Retains limited effectiveness even where the Holy Light is normally blocked, because it is tied to fate rather than conventional Holy Light doctrine. 267
Holy Light Combat
Diakum combines paladin martial combat with priestly divine arts.
- Ashen Echo allows him to reproduce paladin skills imprinted in memory through Holy Light practice or combat. 17
- Light Unsheathed creates temporary weapons from Holy Light or grants temporary Radiant Enchantment to physical weapons. 17
- Ashbringer permanently destroys demons purified by Diakum, preventing their souls from returning to the Twisting Nether for resurrection. 39
- His advanced spellcasting includes Holy Word techniques, later elevated into the Divine Edict sequence as a Radiant Holy Spirit. 98 276
Shadowform and Void Arts
Diakum can suppress his Holy Light connection and draw destructive power from the Shadow/Void domain.
- Shadowform blocks his connection to the Holy Light while greatly increasing destructive spell power. 106
- Healing and enhancement abilities are sealed while Shadowform is active. 106
- He gains Shadow Word spells and advanced Shadow Priest techniques including Mind Control, Dominate Mind, Devouring Plague, Shadowfiend, Mindbender, and Vampiric Touch. 106
- Shadowform allows him to disperse into shadow and mitigate much physical damage. 106
Light-Shadow Twinborn
Diakum’s defining path is the deliberate balance of light and shadow.
- Allows him to use light and darkness without treating either as inherently virtuous or corrupting. 178 270
- Enables the conversion or separate use of Heart Power—goodwill and collective courage—and Sha Power—malice and negative emotion. 459
- At its perfected stage, permits seamless movement between light and shadow and prevents conventional defeat through death. 745
- His doctrine became the foundation of the Light Weavers, whose followers include Lightsworn and Shadewalker branches. 276
Radiant Holy Spirit
As a Radiant Holy Spirit, Diakum is treated as a representative of the Holy Light among the stars.
- Draws Holy Power directly from the Power of Holy Light, giving him an effectively infinite energy supply limited by his body’s capacity to withstand it. 276
- Can shape an adaptable Lightforged body for different opponents and environments. 276
- May contact other Naaru through an Ethereal Song. 276
- Can elevate or condemn mortal Holy Light Walkers by strengthening or stripping their Holy Light power. 276
- Can temporarily consecrate weapons, armor, and unusual creations as Holy Light artifacts. 276
Devourer of Worlds
Diakum’s dark counterpart manifests when his Radiant Holy Spirit form suffers fatal damage.
- Enters Devourer of Worlds form rather than dying. 276
- Absorbs surrounding energy—including primal forces, elements, life force, and World Life Force—to rekindle his light. 276
- Can return to Radiant Holy Spirit form after consuming sufficient energy. 276
- Used the form after devouring a Void God’s core during combat in the Sea of Darkness. 532
Solar Authority
Diakum increasingly wields power associated with An’she and the concept of the sun.
- Learns the Mythic Grand Secrets Radiant Sun and Eclipse from fragments of An’she’s power. 416
- Can assume Solar Incarnation, manifesting light and heat as dense plasma-like Holy Light. 524
- Uses the Radiant Sun as a battlefield environment that supplies light and heat while suppressing negative energies. 762
- Seeks to build High Heaven and ignite the sun to resist the Eclipse Age. 534
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Ashbringer — Diakum’s signature holy blade; demons purified by it through his power cannot resurrect in the Twisting Nether. It was later reforged to receive temporary enhancements from Creation Power. 39 441

- Kazzak’s Soul Resonator Staff — A staff Diakum wields alongside Ashbringer during major battles. 532
