Physiology
Eredar are long-lived humanoids with exceptional adaptability to primal energies. Their former racial blessing of Eternal Life allowed individuals to endure across immense spans of history, though it did not prevent death through violence or other causes. 1 16 830
- Adult male Eredar commonly have high foreheads, prominent horns, tails, reverse-jointed legs, and hoof-like feet. 1
- Their hoofed anatomy is suited to bursts of speed and long-distance travel; iron hoof coverings serve the practical role of footwear. 1
- Eredar possess strong physiques and receive a minor increase in individual strength at each life tier through their racial Heroic Aura. 1
- Their low population, difficult reproduction, and slow accumulation of primal power are longstanding limitations. 16
- Their appearance can change through sustained energy infusion. Lightforged Eredar may develop completely white skin and golden holy markings. 131
Racial Traits
Energy Affinity
Eredar are highly compatible with varied energy types and can manipulate them with unusual ease, though that same affinity also makes them more susceptible to energy's influence. 1 5
- Arcane magic formed the foundation of much of Eredar high culture; Arcane Mages were among the civilization's principal spellcasters. 5
- Their bond with the naaru and the Atama Crystal also produced a significant priesthood devoted to the Holy Light. 5
- Fel corruption can physically and spiritually mutate Eredar into Man'ari. 11
- Lightforging can transform physical features formerly shaped by fel or other energies into sacred crystal and holy markings. 404
Shadow Resistance
Eredar possess an inherent degree of resistance to Shadow attacks. 1
Eternal Life
Eternal Life was an Argus-granted blessing and a foundational feature of Eredar civilization. 23 791
- It enabled leaders and institutions to persist across millennia, including during the long exile from Argus. 23 34
- After Argus's restoration, Diakum announced the severing of this inherited Eternal Life. Future generations are expected to earn its return through a prolonged trial of unity, the recovery of the Pillars of Creation, and the restoration of lost Tears of Argus. 830 831
Culture and Society
Jed'hin Training
Male Eredar traditionally undergo Jed'hin Training, a martial discipline that develops physical combat ability alongside the race's magical traditions. 13
- Training includes unarmed combat and physical contests against dangerous beasts. 13
- Horned Collision Charge uses the coordinated force of hooves, shoulders, torso, and horns to deliver a crushing impact. 28
- The tradition ensured that even Eredar spellcasters were not necessarily frail in close combat. 13
Craftsmanship and Aesthetics
Eredar culture places value on elaborate, gem-enhanced craftsmanship. 1 11 21
- Jewelry and gemstone ornamentation are common in architecture, personal adornment, weapons, and armor. 1 11 21
- Eredar armor often uses magical gemstones for improved energy conduction; Holy Light blessings can be incorporated as crests and sigils. 21
- Their weapons may combine refined physical construction with spell-amplifying gems, inscriptions, and anti-magic properties. 11
Governance
Following the collapse of an earlier Age of Kings, the Eredar rejected monarchy and established the Second Co-Governance era. 10
- The system was intended to balance wisdom and strength under a Dual Ruling Council. 10 19
- Grand Executors occupied the highest level of authority, while governors and archons administered Eredar territories and later the exile fleets. 19 43
- During the exile, the archon system remained effective enough to organize hundreds of separate interstellar clans. 43
History
Early Civilization
The Eredar developed advanced seafaring technology over nearly ten thousand years, explored Argus, and spread across multiple continents. 10 The disappearance of the Primordial Sorcerer was followed by fragmentation and continent-spanning wars between Eredar states, ending the Age of Kings. 10
After reunifying, the Eredar adopted the Second Co-Governance system and rebuilt their civilization around the coexistence of strength and wisdom. 10 Their earliest known communicator with Argus's World Soul was the Primordial Sorcerer Augure, whose legacy remained central to Eredar arcane traditions. 23
Bond with the Naaru
A thousand years before Argus's fall, the Eredar formed a symbiotic bond with the naaru through the Atama Crystal. 5 This relationship expanded the civilization's use of Holy Light and created a substantial class of Eredar priests alongside its established arcane institutions. 5
Fel Corruption and the Fall of Argus
Sarkir's Awakeners' Cult corrupted part of the Eredar spellcaster community and turned it against its own civilization. 11 Eredar who accepted deep fel contamination became known as the Man'ari, or “the Fallen”; their transformation included red skin, fel marks, bone spurs, crystals, sores, and scars. 11
As the Burning Legion threatened Argus, Eredar defenders fought a desperate campaign across locations such as Krokuun. Their resistance was strengthened by blessings from the World Soul, which accumulated in those who took up arms against demons. 28 29
Exile
Naaru vessels evacuated surviving Eredar from Argus while the final battle continued. 35 39 The refugees became divided into many interstellar clans, with the Draenei Clan serving as a vanguard that drew the Burning Legion's attention and gave other clans time to settle. 43 643
The Eredar governors and archons agreed to support the formation of the Army of the Light and the Lightforged Fleet. 43 Over more than twenty thousand years, the clans developed differing customs, priorities, and degrees of commitment to reclaiming Argus. 643
Restoration of Argus
The restoration effort gathered Eredar clans, the Army of the Light, and allied peoples for a war to reclaim Argus from the Burning Legion. 643 807 During the final campaign, Eredar dead were summoned to fight beside the living under Velen and Sarkir's authority over death. 811
After the war, Argus's Star Soul entered a rebirth cycle and its world was reshaped. 830 831 The Eredar returned to their restored homeland at dawn, while preparations began for a future Third Star Sea Co-Governance and the recovery of clans and relics still lost among the stars. 831
