Background / History

Mu En led Shrek Academy and its Sea God Pavilion during a period of growing instability. When the Golden Ancient Tree warned him of the Death Emissary’s reappearance, he convened the pavilion elders and deployed Shrek’s Inspection Corps to investigate the threat 53. He later ordered Yan Shaozhe to pursue the God of Death Emissary and sent Xuan Zi to investigate activity around the Sun Moon Empire 82.

He initially clashed with Chen Ming after Chen Ming severely injured and killed members of Shrek’s tournament team. Mu En intervened with his Radiant Sacred Dragon and demanded that Chen Ming stop, then faced Chen Ming’s demands for the Dragon Pill and other treasures while trying to save the surviving students 115 116. Despite the losses Shrek suffered, he concluded that cooperating with Chen Ming and the Body Sect was necessary against both the Sun Moon Empire and the God of Death Emissary 121.

After returning gravely injured from a mission that eliminated several Evil Soul Master powerhouses, Mu En believed himself close to death and worried that no one could protect Shrek after him 132. The Golden Ancient Tree instead restored his body, healed his origin, and strengthened his bloodline. He subsequently used his own origin power to heal Bei Bei, restoring the latter’s Soul Power and raising it by two levels 133.

Mu En’s relationship with Chen Ming remained volatile. He negotiated with Du Busi over exploration of Reincarnation Continent, fought Du Busi after his recovery, and later confronted Chen Ming in Nanming Province 154 155 149. During their battle, Mu En realized that Chen Ming had manipulated Shrek’s intelligence and was the God of Death Emissary himself; Chen Ming ultimately forced him to retreat 192.

After learning more about the Sea God’s influence over the continent, Mu En chose to resist the unseen power behind both Shrek and the Holy Spirit Cult. He taught Huo Yuhao Reign Supreme, arranged for Long Xiaoyao to help guide him, and sought a path to godhood through a third Soul Core and the opportunities of Reincarnation Continent 197 198. He and Long Xiaoyao later inherited the bloodlines of the Light and Dark Sacred Dragons in Dragon Valley 200 201.

Appearance

Before his recovery, Mu En appeared as a hunched, frail old man whose origin injuries had left him near death. After the Golden Ancient Tree healed him, he regained a robust physique and an imposing presence 133.

Personality

Mu En is composed, pragmatic, and highly protective of Shrek Academy. Even when forced into humiliating negotiations with Chen Ming, he prioritizes preserving Shrek’s students and foundation over personal pride 116 121. He is also willing to make difficult strategic compromises, including temporary cooperation with the Body Sect and the proposal to jointly explore Reincarnation Continent 121 154.

He is distrustful and calculating when dealing with threats. Mu En withheld Chen Ming-related intelligence from Tang Zhen because revealing Shrek’s secrets would endanger his own position and the academy’s interests 190. Chen Ming later describes him as someone capable of “bending and stretching,” repeatedly avoiding fatal confrontations through caution and restraint 248 249.

Following his rejuvenation, Mu En regained the ambition he had lost in old age. He seeks godhood, intends to condense a third Soul Core, and is prepared to oppose the force he believes controls both Shrek and the Holy Spirit Cult 198.
