"Henry, since we've met tonight, I'm preparing to assign you a combat mission. It will be issued to you tomorrow.
Your abilities are strong. I'll assign you a main-force mission on a separate battlefield. If you perform well, I'll give priority to you when distributing spoils and reward you with a large sum of money!"
Henry replied righteously, "For Calradia! For the Great King!"
Henry and Fas returned to camp, both feeling a sense of security. The Half-Orc attack two days ago had truly left them somewhat exhausted.
Inside the barracks, soldiers gathered around the stoves. Flames slowly licked at the bottoms of the pots, bringing a faint warmth. The pots of grain bubbled away, and great clouds of white steam rose into the cold winter air.
Henry found the temporary quartermaster, Claude, and instructed him, "Make sure they eat and drink their fill. Give them more meat. Who knows whether they'll survive the battlefield?"
This wasn't Henry being merciful; it was the duty of a commander. He couldn't have his men risk their lives while being poorly fed.
After receiving his orders, Claude turned and headed for the logistics kitchen, where the soldiers' meals were prepared.
After entering the kitchen, Claude spoke with the rank-and-file soldiers serving as cooks. When they learned that everyone would have meat today, they were ecstatic.
Military meals did not pursue fine flavor. They only needed to fill stomachs and have some oil and fat in them, so these ordinary soldiers were perfectly capable of handling the important task of cooking the food.
Claude made several rounds, then thought for a moment and began inspecting the quality and freshness of the supplies. He carefully selected
