Background / History

Conflict over Chinese armor technology

America became involved in the race for Chen Mu's armor technology after the Kirin Armor was revealed. General Ross planned to intercept Chen Mu, while S.H.I.E.L.D.—described at the time as an American organization—declined to intervene in hopes of acquiring an armor for itself. Chen escaped the attempted arrest using the Kirin Armor. 50

Battle of New York and Avengers propaganda

Following the alien war, American authorities suppressed the visibility of recordings showing China's Space Force as the principal contributor to victory. Instead, they credited S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Avengers and elevated them as national heroes. 298

The remaining nation fractured into competing state blocs, financial interests, armed factions, and local forces. Wealthy groups could purchase weapons and raise private armies, while foreign states—including European countries, Mexico, South American countries, Japan, and South Korea—moved to exploit the instability. 365
