Background / History

Wade Wilson first appears in another world while hunting Francis, the modified man he believes can restore his former appearance. His healing ability came with severe disfigurement, leaving him ashamed to approach Vanessa and determined to force Francis to reverse the change. 373 374 376

His pursuit brings him into conflict with Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Colossus repeatedly tries to steer him toward the X-Men’s ideals, but Deadpool prioritizes revenge and fights him despite being physically outmatched. Chen Mu’s use of the Time Stone prevents Francis from escaping, briefly making Deadpool view Chen Mu as a possible solution to his disfigurement. 374 376

After Vanessa’s death, Deadpool seeks Chen Mu’s help to go back in time. Chen Mu refuses to act freely but agrees to a transaction: Deadpool will help locate rare mutant abilities in return for time travel assistance. 381

Deadpool later becomes protective of Russell, also called Firefist, after discovering the boy’s abuse in an experimental facility. His brutal retaliation against the facility’s principal disgusts Chen Mu and Xu Jia, while his disagreement with Colossus over Russell’s imprisonment leads to another confrontation. 384 387

His desire to obtain Chinese citizenship becomes a long-running motivation. He first seeks military merit during China’s war with America, then continues taking assignments and contributing to China across multiple worlds. He eventually earns a Chinese ID card, returns to Multivariate China as a Reincarnator, and joins an Earth Universe combat team aboard a Kunpeng-class mothership. 411 413 907 973 974

Appearance

Deadpool typically wears a red, full-body combat suit and mask. He hides his face primarily because regenerative mutation left him heavily scarred and wrinkled rather than to preserve a heroic secret identity. 373 996

  • His exposed face is described as wrinkled and severely disfigured. 373 985
  • He is bald beneath the mask. 998
  • His Red Tank transformation rapidly enlarges him into a roughly five-hundred-pound body, usually destroying his clothing. 1029
  • He sometimes adopts other costumes, notably impersonating Deathstroke in the DC world and Homelander in another world. 1014 1282

Personality

Deadpool is extremely talkative, shameless, reckless, and self-aggrandizing. He addresses readers outside the screen, comments on genre conventions, and treats even serious situations as opportunities for jokes or boasting. 391 393 1415

He is fundamentally mercenary-minded: money, Reward Points, power, and Chinese citizenship frequently determine his actions. He is willing to manipulate factions, exploit wars, impersonate others, or use underhanded tactics to accomplish a goal. 986 992 1004 1014

Despite his cruelty and indifference toward many temporary allies, he can show genuine protectiveness toward vulnerable people. His efforts to save Russell and his concern that a second X-Force should not suffer the fate of his first team show that his loyalty is selective rather than absent. 384 387 1023 1025

Abilities & Skills

Regenerative Ability

Deadpool’s healing factor lets him survive injuries that would kill ordinary people.

  • Regrows lost limbs and heals severe bodily damage. 378 1012
  • Survives extensive gunshot wounds, falls, explosions, and having his head smashed apart. 397 474 1099
  • Can still be incapacitated; crashing through an aircraft wing knocks him unconscious. 474
  • His base physical durability is not equivalent to his regeneration: without other enhancements, bullets can still pierce him. 1025

Combat Training

Before relying on immortality, Deadpool was a highly capable special-forces soldier.

  • Skilled in close combat, firearms, and katana fighting. 391 397
  • Uses agility and swordsmanship to compensate for enemies physically stronger than himself. 375
  • His preferred fighting style is reckless because he expects to regenerate from damage. 397 998

Portal Use

Through Chinese magical technology, Deadpool gains access to portal travel.

  • Uses a storage bracelet to open portals and transport himself across long distances. 474 475
  • Employs portals tactically, including stealing Namor’s water bombs during combat. 991
  • Opens a direct route to the witch’s altar for the Suicide Squad. 1023

Red Tank Transformation

The God of Mischief Ruby lets Deadpool channel a version of Cyttorak-derived Red Tank power.

  • Greatly expands his body, strength, endurance, and magical resistance. 1029 1030
  • Allows him to ignore the witch’s magical attacks and crush her after destroying her altar. 1030
  • Boosts his recovery rate further while transformed. 1099
  • The transformation destroys ordinary clothing and is unavailable when Crimson Universe power cannot cross worlds. 1031 1018

Kryptonian Physique

Deadpool receives the potential of an ordinary Kryptonian in exchange for Reward Points.

  • Grows stronger through sunlight. 986 998
  • Develops immense strength, enough to snap a vibranium trident with his bare hands. 991
  • Gains flight, heat vision, super vision, and extreme durability. 999 1005 1274
  • Can fly faster than Mach 8, beyond the tracking capability of radar in one world. 1274

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Carbonadium katanas — his signature blades; their healing-factor-inhibiting property is weakened in the DC world, but their sharpness remains useful. 1098
  • Vibranium longswords — a pair forged by Wakanda after he saves Shuri; Deadpool later considers them largely unnecessary beside his Kryptonian strength. 997 998
  • Storage bracelet — Chinese military device with enormous storage capacity and portal capability. 474 475
  • God of Mischief RubyChen Mu’s compensation after Deadpool fails to receive Captain Marvel’s power; enables his Red Tank transformation. 430 1029
  • Deathstroke costume — used to conceal his identity and frame the real Deathstroke during DC-world operations. 1014 1031

Relationships

  • Chen Mu — patron, occasional ally, and frequent source of frustration. Chen Mu grants Deadpool magical equipment, the God of Mischief Ruby, and later a Kryptonian physique, but regularly expresses annoyance at his chatter. 430 985 986 974
  • Vanessa — Deadpool’s love interest. His shame over his disfigurement keeps him from pursuing her, and her death drives him to seek time travel. 374 381
  • Francis — former target of Deadpool’s revenge. Deadpool pursues him because he believes Francis can restore his original appearance. 373 376
  • Colossus — recurring opponent and would-be mentor. Colossus tries to recruit Deadpool into the X-Men and clashes with him over violence and Russell’s fate. 374 375 387
  • Russell / Firefist — young mutant Deadpool protects after learning of his abuse; Deadpool opposes Russell’s imprisonment despite finding his self-styled codename amusing. 384 387
  • Cable — rival and frequent adversary. They clash over Russell and later meet during China’s war with America; Cable’s Chinese ID card particularly frustrates Deadpool. 397 411
  • Domino — surviving member of Deadpool’s original X-Force and his partner during the Icebox Prison infiltration. 393 394 397
  • Suicide Squad — temporary team that Deadpool leads against the witch and later alongside missions involving Starro. 1023 1032 1077
  • Shuri — Wakandan princess whom Deadpool saves from Namor. She arranges vibranium weapons for him, unaware that he intends to exploit Wakanda’s war with Talokan. 996 998
