Xilos had suddenly learned Enrosis's identity and standing Beyond the World—most startlingly, that she was the Hall Master of the Fifth Hall in the Immortal Sacred Land.
If Wen Ke'er found out, she would probably stir up quite a commotion.
Byron's gaze lingered on Xilos. The light shifting in her strange eyes seemed capable of discerning truth from lies.
She appeared satisfied that Xilos was telling the truth and did not press the matter further.
"Enrosis is something of a mystery even within the Immortal Sacred Land," Byron said, her tone calm.
"She rarely shows herself and has little contact with the other Hall Masters. Even I haven't met her many times."
She paused and looked at Xilos.
"Elves are rare Beyond the World. Apart from Enrosis, you're the first Elf I've met from elsewhere."
Xilos frowned again, confusion flashing through her crimson eyes.
"What does that have to do with me?"
She asked outright.
Byron kept emphasizing that she was an Elf and that Enrosis was one too. Was being of the same race enough to warrant such attention from a Hall Master?
Besides, among Authority Holders Beyond the World, ties of race were usually far weaker than ties of power and interest. She had little direct connection to Enrosis, much less to the matter Byron kept raising.
Byron gave an almost imperceptible shake of her head.
"Enrosis came from a world that had fallen into ruin and was destroyed long ago," Byron said, her voice dropping slightly.
"All her people died in that world's catastrophe."
Xilos's heart gave a jolt.
A ruined, destroyed world... Her people all dead...
That matched Wen Ke'er's description exactly!
"As for Enrosis herself," Byron continued, her tone steady once more, "the Authority she possesses is rather unusual."
"So unusual that with that single
