Xilos became Clan Leader during the Elf race's decline. Her rise was exceptionally swift: she reached the pinnacle of the Shadow World, confronted the Orc and Dragonman races alone, and led the Elves into seclusion. Other races viewed her as formidable, while the Succubus race considered many of her decisions far-sighted. 717

To preserve the fragile Elf Tree and protect her people from the Source of Black Mist, Xilos accepted responsibility for sealing and suppressing the black fog at the Bottom of the Rock Prison. Other races promised pure spirits, resources, and joint inspections of the seal every hundred years, but gradually withdrew their support while the Elf race weakened. 674 731 732

The long-term exposure slowly contaminated Xilos's flames and affected her temperament. Although her fire could destroy black fog without becoming corrupted, she sought pure spirits and other treasures to remove the erosion from herself and revive fallen kin. 724 725 730 731
