Could some new universe have entered Beyond the World, with an idiot who happened to be genuinely powerful but had no idea where he stood?
Many of the Authority Holders were deeply suspicious.
As for the Authority Holders who had just arrived, standing amid the shattered remains strewn across the ground, their first reaction upon being asked whether they would die willingly or wait for someone to kill them was sheer disbelief.
This was not their first time doing something like this.
A shattered world and a man who had only just made a name for himself in Beyond the World were, to their minds, a guaranteed profit.
Strike before he gained a foothold, divide up that territory, and claim a share of his fame along the way. It was a win on both counts.
But they had truly never seen a man as outrageously arrogant as the one before them.
Once their surprise passed, faint smiles followed.
The first to smile swept his gaze across Shen Yi's face.
Then several more mocking gazes followed. Hearing these Authority Holders laugh, many of those whose companions Shen Yi had killed also turned their hateful eyes upon him, one after another.
Those gazes landing on Shen Yi were nothing much.
When they fell on those beside him, however, it was another matter.
Xilos's crimson eyes darkened first.
Enrosis remained utterly expressionless, her presence fainter than anyone else's.
She had barely had the strength to move throughout the journey and had conserved whatever she could. Nor was this a situation that required her to act.
Before either of them moved.
A streak of fire cut across the sky.
It was thin, as thin as a slash someone had carved through the void with a knife. But what it cut through was not air.
