Background

Cai'er is the granddaughter of Shengyue, the Assassin Temple's head, and the daughter of Holy Spirit Heart and Lan Yanyu. Her identity and extraordinary talent were kept from public view; even senior figures of the Holy Temple Alliance knew little about her before her reappearance 36 42.

She was made to undergo the Reincarnation Trial to inherit the Power of Reincarnation. The ordeal caused severe suffering and alienated her from her parents. Holy Spirit Heart later reveals that he had opposed sending her into the trial but was constrained by the Assassin Temple's decisions and his responsibilities, a truth that begins to lessen Cai'er's resentment 220 221.

Cai'er first meets Ye Ling while vulnerable and pursued by Wolf Demons. His protection gives her a sense of safety, beginning a bond that becomes central to her choices 9 10.

Before completing her early Reincarnation Trial, Cai'er is notably icy, withdrawn, and burdened by pain. Ye Ling's companionship gradually allows her to show affection, trust, shyness, and dependence that she rarely displays to anyone else 9 39 130.

Her attachment to Ye Ling consistently outweighs her desire for victory. When they are matched against one another in the Demon Hunting Group competition, she is willing to yield rather than put their bond at risk; Shengyue states that she would even give her life for him if necessary 163.

Despite this dependence, Cai'er repeatedly chooses cultivation and battle so that she can protect Ye Ling in return. She is resolute against demons, driven by anger at their atrocities, and capable of suppressing her emotions to fulfill her role as an assassin 11 182 189.

Her view of her parents softens once she learns the circumstances behind her trial. With Ye Ling's guidance, she begins rebuilding a relationship with them and eventually acknowledges her father's service at Demon Exorcism Pass 221 273 282.

After Ye Ling protects her from Wolf Demons and refuses to let Ying Suifeng take her against her wishes, Cai'er decides to return with Shengyue to continue cultivating. She promises to join Ye Ling's future Demon Hunting Group and leaves him a Forget-me-not Space Ring 9 11 12.

Reincarnation Trial Grounds
