Lingxi Square was broad and level, with disciples occasionally entering and leaving the Internal Affairs Hall in the distance.
The square's bluestone paving was spotless. Thousand-year-old pines lined both sides, their branches murmuring like rolling waves amid the mountain mist, lending the place a tranquil, immortal air.
Yang Jing followed Si Jiawen along the jade steps at the center of the square toward the imposing Lingxi Hall ahead.
As they walked, Si Jiawen turned her head. A barely perceptible trace of envy flashed through her cool eyes as she looked at Yang Jing and said softly, "Junior Brother, I'm afraid you're about to encounter a tremendous opportunity."
Yang Jing froze at her words, his steps faltering slightly. He looked at Si Jiawen in confusion and asked, "Senior Sister, an opportunity? What opportunity do you mean?"
He wondered to himself. Recently, he had done nothing but cultivate diligently in the Training Room and had taken no part in any important sect affairs. Where could such an opportunity have come from?
Si Jiawen gently shook her head, her thin lips pressing together. She offered no further explanation, merely saying, "There's no need to ask. You'll understand once you see Master."
With that, she turned and continued onward, her bearing as straight-backed and aloof as ever, saying nothing more.
Seeing this, Yang Jing stopped asking, though his curiosity only grew stronger.
His master had always been cool and taciturn. Unless something important arose, she would never summon a disciple without good reason. With his senior sister speaking this way as well, this summons surely concerned something of great importance.
Before long, the two entered Lingxi Hall.
The hall was spacious and solemn. Ink paintings depicting the true essence of the Martial Path hung on
