Background
Tang San is a reincarnated former Tang Sect outer disciple. In his previous life, he endured contempt from inner sect disciples, secretly learned forbidden techniques to prove himself, forged the lost Buddha Fury Tang Lotus, and died after leaping from Ghost Cries Cliff. His central ambition in his new life is not merely to restore the Tang Sect, but to surpass it. 17 43
He grows up in poverty in Holy Soul Village as Tang Hao's son. Tang Hao is emotionally absent, leaves Tang San to cook and maintain their home, and later tries to seize Tang San's blacksmithing income. Tang San gradually resents his father's dependence and rejects the idea that filial duty requires indulging an elder's self-destruction. 2 15 29 30
From childhood, Tang San befriends Zhou Qing after they meet while gathering mushrooms. Their shared loneliness creates an early bond: Tang San has a father “in name only,” while Zhou Qing lives alone. Zhou Qing teaches him practical survival knowledge, literacy, and new ways to understand Martial Souls; Tang San, in turn, begins to see Zhou Qing as a trustworthy future member of his planned Tang Sect. 2 3 4 6
Tang San ultimately identifies Holy Soul Village—not the Clear Sky Sect—as his home. He considers himself the blacksmith Tang Hao's son rather than a descendant entitled to sect status, while remaining determined to investigate the truth of his mother's death without being ruled by inherited hatred. 165 751 768
Personality
Tang San is reserved, analytical, and intensely self-directed. He initially speaks little and keeps his past-life identity guarded, but becomes more sociable through his friendship with Zhou Qing and his growing connection to Old Jack. 1 3
His drive to surpass the Tang Sect originates in both ambition and old resentment toward the sect hierarchy that dismissed him as an outer disciple. Over time, Zhou Qing broadens this goal: Tang San comes to believe a sect needs enduring ideals, education, and systems—not only stronger weapons and techniques. 17 328 388
Though he longs for kinship, Tang San does not allow blood ties to dictate his judgment. He tears up Tang Hao's letter after the latter abandons Holy Soul Village, stays guarded when confronting the Clear Sky Sect, and openly states that he will investigate his mother's death himself. 298 751 768
Appearance
Tang San's Blue Silver Grass later manifests as a Blue Silver Emperor vine traced with golden patterns. His spirit rings are described as black with blue patterning after their evolution. 53 753
- His first ring stimulates visible growth in his Blue Silver Grass and can wrap around his right hand like a glove. 53
- Awakening of his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline produces physical changes after his first-ring absorption. 54
- His sixth Soul Skill manifests Blue Gold armor marked with gold patterns. 996
