Chapter 36: 036. Law Enforcement Division Four
Li Aoz blinked in surprise.
For a fleeting moment, Nomi's small figure overlapped with someone from his memory, stirring a faint tremor in his heart.
But then, he shook his head.
We are people too—didn't that sound incredibly naive and foolish?
From a player's perspective, the entire Azure Planet was doomed anyway. The only thing eternal in this world was self-interest.
However, he was no longer a player.
"Don't overthink it."
Li Aoz shifted his gaze. "But it's undeniable that the Four Nations bear the primary responsibility for things escalating to this point."
Nomi stared at him with her single, light purple eye for a long time. "You're really not from the Rose Army, are you?"
"Does it still matter whether I am or not?"
"Oh, you say that, but you're not from the Rose Army yet you're so familiar with its structure, ideology, and deployments—what do you think I, as a Rose Army soldier, would think?"
Nomi playfully rested her wrench on her shoulder, her eyelashes dusted with snow. Her light purple eye seemed hazy in the swirling blizzard.
"Your Excellency Li Aoz, wouldn't you like to explain?"
"First, the title 'Your Excellency' makes it sound like I'm about to be shot; it's rather ominous. I suggest 'Your Majesty' instead."
Li Aoz took a step closer, looking into Nomi's eyes, and said:
"Second, if you think it's worthwhile to kill me and that repairman right now, then take the car and escape back to the Rose Army alone, go ahead and do it."
"Oh, and what else isn't worthwhile?" Nomi narrowed her eyes, a smile playing on her lips.
"Of course, it's not worthwhile. You kill people and take the car; that just gets you one more car. But if you come with me, I'll give you a future."
Li Aoz said with confidence, "A future with sunshine and warmth, where everyone can get ahead, where men and women equally enjoy their rights, where people won't scavenge for leftovers in trash cans, where no one has to beg or perform for money, where there are no prostitutes or slaves. Children and the elderly will be respected and protected, criminals will be punished by law, and labor will be rewarded accordingly—that kind of future."
"...You're bragging, aren't you?" Nomi scoffed. "Isn't that f***ing heaven?"
"This isn't heaven," Li Aoz replied. "This is how humans are supposed to live."
[Nomi's Affection —]
As soon as Li Aoz finished speaking, before he could even see the number that followed, his body was suddenly wracked by a bone-chilling shiver.
Someone was targeting him!
This intense sense of danger was a "sixth sense" developed from years of accumulated experience by veteran players who had been ambushed and double-crossed.
There was no time to react. In his peripheral vision, he saw the red glow of gunpowder flash in the distant frost and snow.
Can't dodge! Bang! Li Aoz was suddenly slammed to the ground. Nomi grabbed his head and buried it in her chest, instantly kicked open the door of Benny's assembled vehicle, and scrambled inside.
Puff puff puff! Bullets pierced Nomi's shoulder and back. Blood flowed down her pale skin, dripping onto Li Aoz's face.
"Nomi—"
"Shut up!"
Nomi took several rifle rounds head-on. She grunted, gritting her teeth. The subsequent bullets all hit the vehicle's frame. This assembled vehicle, lacking even basic sheet metal, couldn't withstand the destructive power of military rifles and was shot through.
Fortunately, the attacker couldn't see their exact position and could only fire blindly. The occasional stray bullet was blocked by Nomi's small body.
Nomi was sweating profusely, biting her lip. Li Aoz felt the palm holding him clench into a fist, and heard her low groan.
How many shots did she take? Li Aoz glanced at his team members' status panels—her Aura had been activated and was rapidly recovering at a rate of 20 points per second.
"...Haa!"
She exhaled heavily, and a dozen blood-stained, elongated bullets popped out from her back, clattering onto the car.
Nomi panted heavily for a moment. Red and black traces appeared in her purple eye, but they quickly faded, returning to a light purple.
"Why did you block the bullets?" Li Aoz demanded. "Those gunshots were clearly from 6.8mm rifles; they can tear through even a Level 3 bulletproof vest. Are you trying to die?"
"Tch—I'm not going to die anyway, you pretty boy!"
Nomi struggled to get up from him. She curled into a ball and slowly moved under the car's chassis. Li Aoz vaguely heard her muttering, "Someone dies from just two pistol shots, while I can take a whole burst and be fine. Do you really need an answer for something this simple, you dummy?"
That was referring to the time he shot himself in the arm.
Li Aoz had almost forgotten. Players were constantly using kamikaze tactics and weren't afraid of death; such a thing was hardly noteworthy.
But Nomi remembered it very clearly.
"My start was too smooth, I barely spent any time in jail. It almost made me forget... I'm not a player anymore."
Li Aoz's gaze shifted. He calmed himself, his eyes gradually turning cold.
Entering combat mode, his [Charm] was now 21 points. Combined with the 30% bonus effect from [Eternal Love Hunter], his [Charm] was effectively 27.3 points.
The growth of attribute specializations was like a snowball effect, getting bigger and bigger.
Based on such high primary attribute gains, he had already obtained information about the attacker.
[Name]: Law Enforcement Division Four Field Agent—Nimoting (Highly Dangerous) [Race]: New Generation Homo Sapiens—Frostplate Citizen

[Rank]: Alpha Rank "Damn it!"
Li Aoz's blood pressure surged, and he cursed, "Night Hunter Nimoting—the final BOSS of the [Assassin]'s main quest!"
The average level of Law Enforcement Division Four's low-level agents was only 15, and their ranks weren't high. Without any Aura, Li Aoz could easily slaughter them with just his experience.
But that didn't mean all agents of Law Enforcement Division Four were so weak and pathetic.
On the contrary, with women holding power in Frostgold, most female superhumans were concentrated within the government. A large number of highly educated female superhumans with luxurious equipment chose to join the Law Enforcement Division Four intelligence organization to gain more power and status.
Night Hunter Nimoting was not just an elite agent, but also the final BOSS for the [Assassin] player's main quest.
What kind of concept was that?
The [Assassin]'s class main quest was notoriously long and tedious, involving 40 assassination targets. By the time the main quest was completed, the [Assassin] players would already be at the max level of 30, and at that point, they would face the final BOSS of the version.
Although Nimoting wasn't a version BOSS, she was more terrifying than many version BOSSes.
The wind howled fiercely, and several figures appeared on the snowfield.
Thump!
Stepping in long boots and wearing black coats, the female agents calmly walked to higher ground. The woman with dark gold hair leading them wore an exquisite and efficient closed breathing mask. The prosthetic body on her left hand slowly retracted its barrel, and a short dagger popped out from her right arm, which she held in her hand.
They wore red and black armbands on their arms, featuring a blooming snowflake ice crystal pattern, symbolizing the purity and flawlessness of the Frostplate Republic. A prominent IV (Roman numeral: 4) was engraved in the center.
Their identity was obvious.
"Law Enforcement Division Four..." Nomi gritted her teeth in hatred. "These butchers!"
Some police officers, heavily armed and equipped, jumped out of their vehicles and quickly surrounded the area.
"Get out, you thugs from the Rose Army."
Nimoting's voice, imbued with powerful Aura, was like a tiger's roar or a dragon's cry, striking fear and trepidation: "You traitors who defied the will of this Republic and its female guardians, why are you still hiding?"
"I know who you are, Li Aoz. No need to argue, surrender obediently. Agent Yawen has already investigated your dealings with the Rose Army. With witnesses and evidence, there's no way to deny it."
As she spoke, her gaze inadvertently swept over a young female agent beside her, whose expression was hidden by her breathing mask.
—It had to be said, this young lady's extensive education was indeed quite useful.
After obtaining the bank's recovered surveillance footage, Yawen immediately spent five days acting alone and apprehended the human trafficker.
Within two days, she also seized the driver who assisted in border smuggling, bringing the entire smuggling chain to justice. This achievement alone was enough to earn a considerable reward.
The number of legal immigrants was limited, but illegal smuggling affected the nation's foundation. Most importantly, it caused panic among foreign capital, making them hesitate to invest and establish factories in Frostgold, severely impacting national interests.
A warning example had to be made! Due to the large number of involved criminals, after a concentrated interrogation, they finally identified Li Aoz, the culprit behind the bank arson.
Most surprisingly, Yawen did not participate in any abusive interrogations throughout the process. Without resorting to forceful interrogation, she managed to uncover clues about Li Aoz's connections with the Rose Army.
Nimoting was inwardly displeased that the "vase" in her eyes had uncovered such a major case, but she had no reason to refute it. Since it was too late to mobilize Law Enforcement Division Four's field units, she summoned the police force and began the search and pursuit.
Fortunately, the warm environment of this wastewater lake seemed to have attracted Li Aoz and his accomplices who had escaped into the outside world.
It was a no-brainer that the other party must also be Rose Army thugs.
Now that she could capture two at once, Nimoting wasn't in a hurry to kill them. Living people were always more useful than dead ones. If she could gather any intelligence, this trip to the border would be incredibly fruitful.
Nimoting had sealed their fate. Whether it was her personal Aura suppressing the entire area or the firepower of the surrounding police force, it was a complete trap with no escape.
