Background / History

Nomi was associated with the Rose Army before her confinement by Nethermark Humanity. A Rose Army guerrilla leader's daughter was reportedly abducted by Outland mutants, exploited for her regenerative body for six months, and only later recovered by Rose Army guerrillas. 448 Nomi herself identifies as the leader of a Rose Army guerrilla squad. 449

Nethermark Humanity forcibly detained her in Ward ZX-101, where its physicians repeatedly injected her and extracted her blood and bone marrow. After meeting Li Aoz, she joined his party to escape the facility and pursue revenge against Nethermark. 22 Her high Constitution, evasive instincts, and close-quarters fighting made her Li Aoz's frontline combatant during their battles with Nethermark Wardens and the White Fang Gang. 23

Her hostility toward Frostplate is personal as well as political. She tells Ya Wen that her parents, siblings, mentors, and comrades died at the hands of their own “compatriots,” rejecting calls for cooperation with Frostplate agents. 59

While returning to Nethermark with Li Aoz and Qiu Ran, Nomi investigates an Esha Armed unit within a bio-pod and is killed. 87 Her soul and personality later surface in the body of Jane Nelia, who insists that she and Nomi are distinct individuals despite sharing one body and brain. Li Aoz concludes that Nomi likely died months earlier and was plundered as a soul or personality through the Plunderer class's unusual inheritance mechanism. 94 95

Li Aoz preserves and strengthens Nomi's Proliferation Aberration Aura within his Ability Pod, intending to recover her original body and the missing half of her soul. 97 123 132 133 He eventually finds her original corpse as an Alpha-rank Esha Corrupted Body, its death prohibited by the Entropy Monarch. 448

Nomi later endures an Entropy Annihilation Apostle's planet-scale attack and survives, finally seeing sunlight through the Esha clouds. 785 Forty years later, she can reconstruct her body after being torn apart; over the following decades, she travels through the Outland and the Four Nations while witnessing both cruelty and compassion. 800 801

By the time she serves in the Abyss Layer United Army, Nomi's homeworld has been destroyed. She seeks Li Aoz—the figure who once saved Azure Planet—to ask why he gave its people hope and then left. Nomi is blunt, chatty, and combative. She needles Li Aoz, openly challenges his plans, and uses exaggerated complaints even in battle, but follows through when a fight begins. 22 23 Her survival instincts are shaped by the Outland: she distrusts lofty humanitarian rhetoric and readily accepts that neither Nethermark Humanity nor the White Fang Gang are innocent. 24

Her anger toward Frostplate and its institutions is intense, rooted in the loss of her family and comrades. 59 Yet her loyalty to those who stand beside her is equally fierce; she takes multiple gunshots to protect Li Aoz and trusts him during their confrontation with Law Enforcement Division Four. 36 41

In later decades, Nomi becomes more reflective without losing her defiance.
