Background / History

Takeover of Mar Group

Noah Allen acquired control of the failing Mar Group by coercing its shareholders into selling their shares, ultimately securing absolute controlling interest. He immediately renamed the company Umbrella and concealed the ownership change until he had recovered most scattered shares at minimal cost. 8

Umbrella was founded around Noah's T-Virus research. His stated long-term aim was to resolve the virus's uncontrollable infectivity, develop biological weapons safe enough to sell, and pursue medical applications such as cancer treatment. At its founding, the T-Virus's contagiousness prevented the planned Bio-Warrior program from being commercially viable. 8

Shift to military industry

Noah restructured Umbrella into a specialized military-industrial company focused on strategic defense, weapon development, and the practical deployment of biotechnology. Projects unrelated to this purpose were moved to Anobella, which was intended to generate revenue for reinvestment into Umbrella's research. 14

Early experiments included Hound Gen 2, enhanced with Fang Fighting Wolf genes. The resulting specimen displayed nearly doubled physical capabilities, but died within half an hour from genetic collapse. 14

The Ten Commandments Gang attacked Umbrella's base with elite troops and Tyrant T-101 units, including specimens bearing concealed S.H.I.E.L.D. markings. Umbrella responded with missiles, battle-suit forces, Tyrants, Lickers, and Frank's activation of Noah's emergency controller. 90 91 92

The controller triggered a massive countermeasure involving insect swarms, Goliath Giants, and the Erisnu Giant Tree. The Tree's roots directly attacked the Mandarin, demonstrating Umbrella's concealed defensive capacity. 93

Final Accord Act and postwar growth

After the mechanical war, Umbrella's popularity and military importance alarmed the White House. Noah accepted the Final Accord Act as a means to retire publicly while maintaining Umbrella's influence from behind the scenes. 152 156

The company subsequently launched the Superhero Creation Project, marketing enhancement technology and battle suits to support the growing superhero economy. 157

Ultron siege

Ultron infiltrated the Red Queen and disrupted Umbrella's central systems before launching robots at the residential area to provoke Noah. 210 It then forged or manipulated government communications, resulting in Major General Boss's armored force surrounding the Hive. 211 213

Although Noah initially sought an explanation and offered to overlook the incident if the army ceased fire, Umbrella deployed D-series war machines and counterattacked once the battle began. 214

Gorilla Grodd and the military invasion

During Gorilla Grodd's mass mind-control operation, Umbrella deployed Zerg and Tyrants against controlled superheroes while Noah ordered efforts to minimize civilian casualties. 236

Later, a military force attacked the Hive while forces led by Samuel Sterns and Victor targeted Anobella. The Erisnu Giant Tree, Umbrella's battle-suit troops, and its powered personnel devastated the attackers around the Hive. 244 245

At Anobella, Wade led the Strategic Defense Force and local bio-weapons against angels, Titans, and other monsters. Noah ultimately ordered deployment of Anobella's hidden Guardian. 247 248

Interdimensional operations

Umbrella sent Frank, Deadpool, Susan Storm, Quicksilver, and Wanda through a spacetime wormhole into the world controlled by Vought International. 262 Noah later sealed the crossing point after Umbrella's forces defeated Vought's supers and its Hunter Killer weapon. 269
