"Crack~"
Cheap wooden clogs snapped dry branches as two petite figures ran swiftly through the obstacle-filled forest, where thick tree roots twisted everywhere.
"Older Sister, I-I can't run anymore!"
The little girl was younger, and ever since boarding the Slave Trader's cart, she had only received barely enough Food each day to stay alive.
After entering the forest, encountering all kinds of dangerous beasts, and doing her best to Escape, her stamina had been severely drained. Now, she could barely keep running.
"Hang in there, Kurome. Don't give up."
Akame encouraged her Younger Sister, but the beastly roars behind them were drawing closer and closer.
"Ah~"
The little girl's strength gave out. Her steps faltered, and she accidentally tripped over a vine on the ground.
"Kurome!"
The girl running ahead immediately stopped.
"Don't worry about me, Older Sister. Run!"
Kurome lay on the ground, her eyes red from pain and fear after the fall, yet she still shouted at the older girl ahead of her.
Seeing this, the wolf-like Danger Beast that had been chasing them and wearing down their stamina immediately pounced at the fallen girl.
"Don't think you can hurt my Younger Sister!"
Akame directly drew her only weapon, a Small Knife, and shouted as she charged toward the wolf-like Danger Beast, which was nearly as large as she was.
Akame was agile. She dodged the wolf-like Danger Beast's bite and stabbed her knife into the beast's neck.
Unfortunately, the angle was wrong and her strength was too weak. She only cut open a wound on the wolf's neck before it shook its head and flung her away.
A wounded beast was dangerous. The wolf-like Danger Beast shifted its hatred, its beastly eyes locking onto the girl who had injured it and now lay dazed from being thrown to the ground. With a roar, it charged forward, intending to bite the prey that had hurt it to death first.
"Don't hurt my Older Sister!"
Just as it was about to bite Akame, Kurome had already climbed to her feet. The little girl seemed to have unleashed her body's hidden potential. From the side, she stabbed her knife into its abdomen, and the momentum of her charge ripped open the wolf-like Danger Beast's belly.
The wolf-like Danger Beast wanted to counterattack, but Akame had also gotten up and rushed over, driving the dagger still lodged in its neck deeper in.
With a final howl, the calf-sized wolf-like Danger Beast let out its last cry and was taken down by the Twin-Eyed Sisters.
"Kurome, are you okay?"
"I'm okay. What about you, Older Sister?"
"I'm okay too. We survived."
The two girls collapsed against the wolf's corpse, both feeling as though they had survived a disaster.
But that feeling did not last long before low growls began sounding from the surrounding forest.
The final wolf howl had gathered the wolf-like Danger Beasts that had been scattered around hunting the prey that had Broken Into their territory.
"Kurome."
Akame pulled the little girl behind her, pulled the bloodstained Small Knife from the wolf's neck, and aimed it at the three newly appeared wolf-like Danger Beasts.
"Older Sister..."
Kurome also gripped her bloodstained Small Knife tightly and stood close beside the older girl. They had been surrounded by the pack of wolf-like Danger Beasts.
"I'll hold them off later. You run straight back."
Akame said in a low voice.
"I won't leave. I want to fight with Older Sister."
Kurome shook her head. She did not want to abandon her sister.
"Idiot. Only if you, with your poor stamina, run away can I escape too."
"Older Sister..."
"Don't cry. Father and Mother are already dead, but we have to survive."
"Mm, I will..."
Before Kurome could finish speaking, a questioning voice interrupted her.
"Excuse me, is this for me to eat?"
The moment Broly transmigrated, he encountered two girls whom the Crystal Palace had judged as possible targets to win over.
Akame, current Happiness Value: 0
Kurome, current Happiness Value: 0
Beside them lay a fresh prey carcass. Broly had exchanged his last covered rice bowl for his Father, and he still had no idea where his next meal would come from. So he asked the two wives he had run into immediately after transmigrating.
"Hm?"
The boy who had suddenly appeared beside them startled the two sisters.
"Where did you come from?"
Akame pulled her younger sister back and asked him warily.
"Me? I just transmigrated here."
Broly answered honestly.
"Transmigrated?"
Before the two could figure out what "transmigrated" meant, one of the wolf-like Danger Beasts surrounding them lost its patience and moved.
"Watch out!"
Akame hurriedly warned the boy of the danger behind him, but her voice abruptly cut off the next instant.
The wolf's jaws clamped down on the boy's head, yet the blood that sprayed out did not belong to the boy at all. It was the giant wolf that had bitten his head—its fangs shattered directly from the recoil.
"Don't make my head all sticky."
Broly disliked sticky sensations. They reminded him of Vampa Spiders. He raised his foot and gave the wolf-like Danger Beast biting his head a kick.
He had not used much strength, yet the wolf-like Danger Beast's eyes widened. Its back arched, its spine burst out through its flesh, and blood sprayed everywhere.
However, that brutal sight did not make the other two wolf-like Danger Beasts retreat. On the contrary, the blood splashing from one of their own stimulated them even more.
The eyes of the two slightly smaller wolf-like Danger Beasts turned red, and Red Light flared from their bodies. Like dogs in the throes of rabies, they charged from both sides.
But with two loud bangs, Broly blew apart their wolf heads. Their headless corpses collapsed to the ground, adding a little more meat to the food reserves of the Saiyan who had just arrived in this world.
"Blood tastes bad."
Broly was a little thirsty, so he directly lifted one of the headless wolf corpses and drank its Bodily Fluid from the severed neck. After two mouthfuls, he stuck out his red tongue in disgust.
His mouth had been spoiled by normal food. During his first transmigration, he had thought Crest Worms were delicious, but after taking his first sip of a new world's food during his second transmigration, he found its Bodily Fluid unpleasant.
"Of course it tastes bad. That's blood—and Danger Beast blood at that."
Akame Complained, but she quickly pulled her younger sister farther back. The boy, who looked like a little savage drinking blood raw, was holding the headless wolf corpse out toward them.
"Do you want some? I can treat you."
Akame: "..."
"Why are you offering us something you think tastes bad?"
Kurome asked outright.
"Because I don't want to drink blood, but I don't want to waste it either."
Broly answered honestly.
The Twin-Eyed Sisters: "..."
There was nothing wrong with that logic.
"Anyway, thank you for saving my younger sister and me."
Akame sincerely thanked him. Without this boy who had suddenly appeared, she and her younger sister might have died here, just like the other children who had already been killed by the Danger Beasts.
"No need to thank me. It was only right that I helped you."
Broly said happily. The Crystal Palace prompts were telling him that the Happiness Values of the two girls in front of him—his wives—were continuously rising. In only a short while, Akame's had risen to 12, while Kurome's, as the younger sister, had risen to 9.
"My wives' happiness is my happiness."
Thinking of the 21 Happiness Value, and the food that the Happiness Points converted after they became Crystal Palace Official Members could be exchanged for, Broly could not help swallowing.
But according to his father Paragus's instructions, he had to raise the Happiness Value of the wives he found to the highest possible level before inviting them. Otherwise, he would lose out on a lot of Happiness Points.
"Wives?"
Akame looked puzzled.
"It means best friends."
Broly explained.
"I want to be best friends with you."
As he spoke, he extended his hand toward them.
"What are you doing?"
Remembering how the boy had blown apart a wolf's head with one punch, both Akame and Kurome instinctively stepped back again.
"Of course I'm shaking hands with you. This is how one of my best friends taught me to make friends—find wives."
"Uh..."
The Twin-Eyed Sisters looked at each other. Feeling that the boy did not mean them any harm, they lowered their guard and held out their little hands to shake Broly's.
"Shake hands, good friends. From today onward, you two are my, Broly's, two best friends in this world. Hmm, do you want to eat meat?"
"Eh?!"
The topic changed a little too quickly, but it was not strange coming from Broly. He was always more interested in food.
Besides, whenever he had eaten with Fujimura Taiga before, her Happiness Value had risen very quickly as well.
That was right—Broly had already used what he considered the first move for farming Happiness Value:
He invited his Wife to eat with him!
After her parents died, Akame had become more mature than others her age because she needed to care for her Younger Sister.
"This place is dangerous. We should eat somewhere safe."
But that maturity did not stop her from feeling genuinely hungry and wanting to eat.
"Mm, okay."
Broly did not think there was anything dangerous here, but he did not argue with his best friend. He simply tore down several vines, bundled up the corpses of the four wolf-like Danger Beasts on the ground, and carried them over his shoulder. This was the rations for him and his two best friends.
"H-Help!"
They had not gone far when Broly and the Twin-Eyed Sisters came across a patch of Luring Man-Eating Flowers. These were dangerous plants that normally did not move, but when prey approached, they immediately used their enormous petals to bite down on it, trapping and killing it within their buds before turning it into nourishment.
Back in Jiffonora Sea Tree Forest, these Luring Man-Eating Flowers survived by preying on insects, birds, and beasts, along with photosynthesis. But now, some children passing through the forest had suddenly Broke Into their territory. Naturally, these terrifying giant flowers used their huge petals to swallow the children who had wandered in by mistake.
The one crying for help now was a Girl whose lower body had already entered the mouth of a Luring Man-Eating Flower. Her little face was full of terror, yet the passing children did not try to save her. Instead, they fearfully detoured around the dangerous flower patch.
That Officer who had driven them into the forest had said that only by crossing the forest and reaching the Open Space at its center could they survive.
Thus, after entering this perilous woodland, most of the children had only one thought in their minds: reach somewhere safe.
Akame was the same in that regard, but just as she was about to go around the man-eating flowers, she saw the Boy beside her set down the wolf corpses on his back.
"Wait, what are you doing?"
"Isn't she calling for help? She looks like she really wants to get out, so I'm going to help her out."
