Background / History
Planet conquest and exile
Paragus formerly worked under Cooler's Armored Squadron as a fighter conquering planets. He describes the Saiyans' occupation as taking inhabited planets and selling them to buyers who needed a living world 262.
His wife died when Broly was born. According to Broly's account, King Vegeta considered the infant's exceptional potential a threat and exiled him to Vampa. Paragus followed his son, but his spaceship broke down, stranding them both on the monster-filled planet 561.
The pair survived on Vampa Spiders, whose extremely unpleasant taste became a lasting grievance for Paragus. He blamed King Vegeta for their suffering and retained a desire for revenge even after their living conditions improved 26 382 527.
Life during Broly's otherworld journeys
Broly's first documented return from another world brought Paragus both relief and unfamiliar food, including a Pork Cutlet Rice Bowl. Their reunion also involved Broly beating him up—a recurring feature of their interactions 25.
As their food purchases depleted Broly's Happiness Points, Paragus recommended investing in Mobile Charging upgrades rather than relying on the Crystal Palace's five-year natural recharge. During the ensuing charging period, he began weaving Ba Ya Beast fur into clothes for his son and advised him to retreat from overwhelmingly powerful enemies 26.
He subsequently remained on Vampa while Broly traveled, hearing accounts of his adventures on each return. When Broly introduced the possibility of a Cross-World Teleportation Gate, Paragus immediately hoped it might offer a way off the planet 114 237 262 315.
Lord Slug's arrival
When Lord Slug's legion reached Vampa, Paragus welcomed its members with spider-leg soup and questioned them about the outside universe. Hearing that Planet Vegeta had been destroyed, he celebrated because King Vegeta could no longer escape the consequences he wished upon him, though he regretted losing the chance for personal revenge 527.
The legion's plan to convert Vampa into a spaceship threatened the Ba Ya Beasts by depriving them of sunlight. Paragus, who had become attached to the creatures through tending their fur, questioned whether their deaths were an unavoidable cost of the conversion 527.
During Broly's confrontation with Slug, the tyrant ordered Angila, Medamatcha, and Dorodabo to kill Paragus. The officers deliberately held back, allowing him to fight them on even terms while Broly defeated Slug. After Broly became king, Paragus defended ordinary soldiers' right to pause their work and enjoy Vampa's night sky 528 529.
Appearance
- Described as a middle-aged Saiyan, despite Broly's habitual references to him as his “Old Man” 524.
- Years of isolation leave him dressed like a savage when he meets Lord Slug's officers 527.
- Broly's beatings sometimes leave his face visibly swollen 315.
Personality
Paragus retains traditional Saiyan attitudes toward conquest, strength, and violence. He initially finds Broly's work escorting children home and relieving drought decidedly un-Saiyan. Much later, he still sees planetary raiding as an ordinary occupation and offers to handle it himself when Broly refuses to become a bandit 114 632.
His affection develops through everyday exchanges rather than replacing those beliefs. Broly sharing half a meal makes him reflect on how unusual generosity between Saiyan relatives is, and he feels fortunate that his son did not simply adopt a conventional Saiyan upbringing. He expresses care through clothing, meals, practical advice, and concern for Broly's safety; he also begins missing his deceased wife 26 262 430.
Abilities & Skills
Saiyan Combat and Flight
- Can fly using his own power, including out of a Ba Ya Beast pit and toward the edge of Vampa's atmosphere 237 525.
- Fights Angila, Medamatcha, and Dorodabo simultaneously, although their restraint prevents the encounter from establishing his strength against their full power 528.
- Is weaker than Broly by the time his son is three years old 717.
Saiyan Physiology and Survival Knowledge
- Explains that full-moon light absorbed through the eyes triggers a tail-dependent Great Ape transformation, increasing combat power tenfold 237.
- Knows that royalty and harshly trained Saiyans can retain reason in that form, but does not teach Broly the training method 237 717.
- Prevents Broly from viewing the full moon because he could not restrain his son if the transformation caused a rampage 237.
- Draws on experience visiting dangerous planets to emphasize retreat and survival over fighting an unwinnable battle 26.
Planning and Resource Management
- Understands light-year distances and the escalating cost of Mobile Charging upgrades 26.
- Recommends early investment in the charging function as a long-term means of improving their life on Vampa 26.
- Clarifies that Saiyans have no rule limiting them to one wife, answering Broly's questions about his growing family 262.
Crafting and Animal Care
- Weaves Ba Ya Beast fur garments for Broly and later enthusiastically makes suits for his son's wives and their children 26 430.
- Melts rare ore to forge everyday tools 430.
- Grooms Ba Ya Beasts and works with Broly to harvest their red fruits 237 315.
- Prepares spider-leg soup for the visiting legion members 527.
Equipment / Items
- Damaged spaceship — Broke down after he followed Broly to Vampa, leaving father and son stranded 561.

- Stone bowls — Used to serve spider-leg soup to Lord Slug's legion 527.
Relationships
- Broly — Son. Their relationship combines genuine attachment with arguments and repeated beatings; Paragus remains an adviser and caregiver despite being unable to match his son's strength 25 26 315 717.
- Unnamed wife — Broly's mother, who died at his birth. Paragus later finds himself missing her 262 561.

- Cooler's Armored Squadron — Former employers in planetary conquest 262.
- Ba Ya Beasts — Creatures he tends regularly; his attachment makes their threatened extinction a personal concern 237 527.
- Angila, Medamatcha, and Dorodabo — Visiting officers whom he feeds and befriends. They spare him their full strength when Slug orders his death 527 528.
- Tsulai — Broly's guest, whom Paragus greets politely upon her arrival on Vampa 638.

“They merely want to look at the planet's night sky. Why be so harsh?” 529
“We Saiyans are space bandits too. Raiding planets and destroying civilizations are things we excel at.” 632
