| Philosopher's Fetus | 342 | By this point, Wang is identified as having transformed into the Philosopher's Fetus. Though Qianyi had previously destroyed this form with a punch, Wang retained the power of Divine Day and could repeatedly reshape the Philosopher's Fetus while pursuing “Taiyi's Dream.” 342 |
Background
Wang is the second-ranked Sui Phase and the second eldest of the Sui Family. He divided himself into 181 fragments, calling himself the Black Stone, and sought to use heaven and earth as a chessboard against all living beings. While gathering his siblings’ authorities to oppose the Sui Beast, he also monitored the methods they developed to survive its awakening. 68 69
His pursuit of power left him deeply uncertain of his identity. Ling argued that dividing the self into “many” and borrowing his siblings’ powers risked turning Wang into Sui rather than preserving him as Wang. Nian likewise challenged him to consider who he would become if he acquired every sibling’s authority and defeated Sui. 69
Wang’s hatred of Sui is personal. Sixty years earlier, his younger sister Jie entered the Sui Mausoleum with him to destroy Sui’s lingering consciousness. Their attempt failed; Jie died saving Wang and was subsequently forgotten by the world. 103
Appearance
Wang is a haggard but handsome man who shares the imposing horns and tail characteristic of Ling, Nian, and Xi. 69
- Haggard appearance despite his striking features. 69
- Prominent horns and tail. 69
- Carries a sword at his waist and is often depicted with a wine cup. 108
Personality
Wang is calculating, proud, and deeply committed to long-term strategy. His skill at Go led him to believe that no opponent in Yan could match him, and he initially treated Qianyi’s unconventional opening as a serious challenge to his confidence. 69
He is also sharp-tongued and politically cynical. During the Yan court’s rallying speech, Wang privately dismissed the True Dragon’s rhetoric as “bullshit,” only changing his words when directly confronted by the Emperor. 99
Despite his coldness, Wang is protective of his family and determined to oppose Sui. Jie’s death remains a defining wound, and he joins Chongyue and Ya in preparing to confront the Sui Beast themselves. 103 His harsh treatment of Xi after she sent a painted duplicate to the family reunion reflects both his strictness and his belief that she needed to understand the danger surrounding their family. 103 104
Abilities & Skills
Fragmentation and Authority Learning
Wang can divide himself into 181 separate parts and learn the authorities wielded by other Sui Fragments. 68 69
- Uses the identity Black Stone while treating the world as a vast chessboard. 68
- Maintains “black pieces” in locations including Londinium. 100
- Seeks to collect portions of his siblings’ authorities as part of his preparation against Sui. 68 69
Chess and Illusion Creation
Wang is an exceptional Go player and strategist. He once shattered a Yan Go sage’s Dao heart and regarded himself as unmatched before meeting Qianyi. 69
- Created an inner-demon illusion intended to trap Qianyi and the Sui siblings. 69
- His illusion was destroyed by Qianyi’s Tens of Thousands of Proverbs, which swept away the false environment and freed the trapped siblings. 69
- Planned to expend his remaining 180 black pieces to drain Qianyi’s strength, but abandoned the effort after Qianyi pursued him and Ya into the Spring and Autumn Scenery. 70
Authority Seizure
Wang can use stored authority to pry into and borrow another Sui sibling’s power. 103
- Seized Xi’s authority through a portrait containing part of her power. 103
- Previously used a similar technique to seal and seize Xi’s authority, a method Xi later replicated against Ling. 107
- Held access to the combined authority of the Sui Family during Xi’s confrontation with the other Sui representatives. 108
Divine Day and Dual Path Power
Wang possesses Divine Day, an egg formed through the interwoven powers of Harmony and Order with the Choir as its substrate. 342
- Retained Divine Day after Qianyi previously destroyed the Philosopher's Fetus. 342
- Continues to wield power taken from Harmony’s Choir and power associated with Order through the Elden Ring. 342
- Can reshape the Philosopher’s Fetus repeatedly as long as his desire to create “Taiyi’s Dream” remains. 342
- In his normal state, he is described as nearly invincible within the galaxy through his simultaneous use of two Path Conductors’ powers. 342
Relationships
- Chongyue — Elder brother and fellow Sui Phase. Wang plans to confront Sui alongside him and shares Yan’s political situation with him. 99 103
- Ling — Younger sister and one of the few siblings able to get along with Wang. She challenges his loss of identity and calls him a “useless chess player.” 69
- Shu — Younger sister and another of Wang’s few amicable family connections. Wang takes an ear of wheat from her before departing to face Sui. 69 103
- Nian — Younger sister who exaggerated Wang’s talents to persuade Qianyi to help capture him. She later confronts Wang over the possibility that absorbing every authority would make him indistinguishable from Sui. 56 69
- Xi — Younger sister whose authority Wang seizes after she sends a painted double to the family reunion. 103 104
- Jie — Younger sister who died saving Wang during their failed attempt to destroy Sui’s lingering consciousness sixty years earlier. 103
- Ya — Giant beast and temporary ally. She flees with Wang through spatial cuts and later accompanies him in preparations to battle Sui. 69 70 103
- Qianyi — Initially an opponent in Wang’s chess game; Qianyi defeats his illusion, pursues him through Ya’s spatial realm, and forces his surrender. Wang later recognizes Qianyi’s priority in dealing with Sui and receives artifacts from him for the planned battle. 69 70 100 103
- Robin — Referred to as Wang’s sister in a later appearance. Wang reacts with immediate rage when an audience member disparages her performance. 342
Story Role / Major Arcs
Encounter with Qianyi
Wang invites Qianyi to a game of chess, only for Qianyi to turn the match into a physical confrontation and use Tens of Thousands of Proverbs to destroy Wang’s inner-demon illusion. After Ling and Nian question whether Wang is losing himself to his pursuit of Sui’s power, Wang temporarily concedes the encounter and retreats with Ya. 69
Qianyi pursues Wang and Ya through repeated spatial shifts, eventually entering the Spring and Autumn Scenery itself. With Ya to be sealed and his remaining strategy rendered futile, Wang surrenders. 70
Yan Political Crisis
During the looming war between Yan and Great Britain, Wang opposes the True Dragon’s belligerent rhetoric and recognizes Qianyi’s wider ambition. He proposes a succession struggle to halt the war, using his black pieces in Londinium to send the plan to Qianyi, but Qianyi rejects it in favor of addressing Sui first. 99 100
Preparations Against Sui
Wang and Chongyue intend to settle the conflict with Sui personally, with Ya accompanying them. Qianyi supports their effort by lending Wang Great Yan’s national fortune, imperial seal, and the genuine Chixiao Sword. 103
Philosopher's Fetus
In a later appearance, Wang retains Divine Day and the powers connected to Harmony and Order despite the prior destruction of his Philosopher’s Fetus. He continues pursuing the creation of “Taiyi’s Dream.” 342
Notable Quotes
“King of Britain, interested in playing a game of chess?” 69
“King of Great Britain, let us consider this game mine to lose for now. But when we meet again, I will challenge you anew.” 69
“Actually, I have a plan to stop this war.” 100
Trivia
- Nian’s initial description of Wang as a master of forging, painting, farming, medicine, warfare, and virtually every other discipline was a deliberate bluff intended to interest Qianyi. 56 68
- Wang is described as the least popular member of the Sui Family; Ling and Shu are the only siblings said to get along with him easily. 69
- The True Dragon of Yan considers Wang dangerous enough that a direct fight would likely end with the Emperor being “split open” repeatedly. 99
