Seeing this, Lena glanced at the furious George, unable to stop herself from worrying. Yet her feet did not hesitate in the slightest as she hurried after David.
Watching David head toward the door, George grew even more enraged. This was a blatant challenge to his authority!
Furious, George immediately roared.
"Stop right there!"
Hearing the anger-filled roar from behind her, Lena could not help looking at David ahead of her.
If David did not stop, neither would she!
However, under her gaze, David, who had already reached the door, stopped after all. While this relieved her, she also felt a faint sense of disappointment. If possible, she truly did not want David to compromise. She still hoped he would be like the man she had met when she first joined the FBI—sharp-edged and fearless!
But reality was not so simple. It was not as though determination and fearlessness alone could solve every problem. Sometimes, people had to learn to compromise.
Just as Lena was overwhelmed by mixed feelings, David slowly turned around, smiled faintly at George, and said loudly.
"Director, once you bring in the Avengers, I'll definitely help you arrest Tony Stark!"
After saying that, David lowered his head and looked at Lena, whose face showed surprise mixed with a trace of excitement, then said gently.
"Come on, let's eat. All this delay has made me hungry!"
Lena could not help smiling as well, nodding as she said.
"Me too!"
The two exchanged smiles. Everything was understood without a word.
Everyone present could not help secretly turning their eyes toward the dark-faced George. From David's attitude, it seemed he was going to tear things apart with George, leaving him no dignity whatsoever.
Chances to see Director George suffer a setback were rare, and most of them were more
