Rocket Raccoon, sharp-tongued and caustic as he was, had an even more tragic past. He had been used as an experimental subject and subjected to all kinds of modifications; once stripped, his body was covered in scars and signs of alteration.
Though he did not know Gamora's exact circumstances, judging from what she had just said and her extraordinary skills, she had clearly endured far more pain than he had imagined.
Compared to them, aside from Groot, who could only say one sentence and acted like an idiot, he was actually the happiest among them.
No matter what, he had lived a normal life for over a decade and experienced a mother's love. Though life among the Colonisers had involved plenty of hardship, he had never encountered any real danger. After becoming an adult, he had been free to do as he pleased; even Yondu could do nothing about him.
Thinking it over carefully, aside from abducting him, being extremely strict with him as a child, and particularly enjoying scaring him by threatening to eat him, Yondu did not seem as bad as he had thought.
At the very least, Yondu had not forcibly separated him from his mother while she was still alive. He had taken him only after her death, which could be considered taking him away from that place of sorrow.
The unfamiliar life among the Colonisers had instead kept him from dwelling too deeply on the pain of losing his mother, allowing him to recover quickly.
Nor had Yondu, like those prison guards, taken away his Walkman and tapes. He had helped him preserve every memory of Earth and his mother.
And Yondu's harsh training had actually been more like that of a demanding teacher. Though it had made him suffer quite a bit, he had
