Chapter 30: Leading the Rescue, Hidden Danger
Chapter Thirty: Leading the Rescue, Hidden Danger
"Lin Mo?!"
Seeing the somewhat familiar face, Li Hao's heart was filled with mixed emotions. Looking at the water ghost heads on the ground, he was already somewhat at a loss.
"Who are you?" Lin Mo tilted his head to look at him.
"Li Hao, I've been filling in for you as a patrolman these past few days..." Li Hao reacted. The situation was urgent, and he had no time for any lingering jealousy.
He quickly evacuated the mother and daughter from the tailor shop, then added, "There are many water ghosts at East Third Pier, and I couldn't fight them... I was driven to this street block."
Lin Mo understood.
It was normal for a First Level martial artist to suffer greatly when facing these water ghosts without knowing their weaknesses.
These water ghosts had distinct advantages and disadvantages, even extreme ones. Their speed was slower than ordinary people, but their bodies were as hard as steel.
"Chop their necks, that spot is much more vulnerable!"
Lin Mo explained, then looked towards the misty depths of the pier. Many water ghosts were still leisurely drifting out. He had already made up his mind.
With his abilities, even if he couldn't defeat them, he could protect himself and retreat. If it was just a large number of water ghosts, it would take time to deal with them.
He looked at Li Hao and asked, "Brother, want to go in and kill with me?"
Lin Mo had seen many martial artists gathered into teams around the area. After truly experiencing the obvious weaknesses of these water ghosts, the martial artists of Changhe County, who had been retreating earlier, now had the ability to clear them out.
Across dozens of piers, almost every pier had one or two small teams led by the four great families to clear out water ghosts.
"East Third Pier is where we are stationed, of course I have this responsibility!"
Li Hao's gaze was firm, and he agreed almost without thinking. As a member of the Li Family, his sense of responsibility was no less than Lin Mo's.
"Brother Lin, why don't you take me along."
From the end of the street, a figure with long arms and a tall, straight posture in a green martial arts uniform appeared. It was Zhu Hao, who had been seriously injured a few days ago.
"Brother Zhu, your body?"
"Thanks to you, the Li Family also rewarded me with medicine. Not only has my injury healed, but I've even taken half a step into Second Level!"
Zhu Hao chuckled, his eyes gleaming. It was clear he had also rushed to this place, itching to fight.
"In that case, I'll lead the way, and you two take care of the flanks!"
Lin Mo didn't hesitate. The three of them stepped into the misty depths of East Third Pier. In just a moment, a few water ghosts pounced like jackals smelling blood.
Their ferocious mouths and grayish-green skin instantly pierced through the mist and appeared before their eyes.
The mist was thick. A normal First Level martial artist's visibility was no more than ten meters. However, Lin Mo possessed the [Insightful Eye], and golden light flickered in his eyes.
Within fifty meters, he could see almost everything. This allowed their small group to avoid large water ghost swarms and deal with scattered water ghosts one by one.
The moment the few water ghosts pounced, Lin Mo was prepared. With a twist and a grab of his hands, he easily took off two heads.
"Leave a couple for us to have some fun too!"
Zhu Hao said. Li Hao also attacked simultaneously. For the remaining two water ghosts, they each faced one.
Li Hao, having suffered greatly before, did not dare to be careless. The long saber in his hand moved like a poisonous snake's breath, easily slicing across the water ghost's neck.
Crack!
Compared to the rest of the water ghost's body, its neck was like the difference between a block of tofu and a block of iron. Only when Li Hao severed its head did it roll to the ground.
He then came back to his senses and heard two compliments in his ear, "Good saber technique, worthy of the main branch of the Li Family."
"Good saber, brother. Let's see how my Entangling Ape Fist fares!"
Seeing how easily the water ghost was dealt with by the two, Zhu Hao's confidence inexplicably exploded. Even First Stage Perfected could do this, and he was half a step into Second Level.
With a loud shout, he swung his long arm, and his bones creaked. Three sonic booms echoed in the air. This powerful punch was sent flying.
The water ghost instantly smashed into a nearby wall like a cannonball. Bricks and tiles rustled and fell, completely crushing the water ghost under the rubble.
"Using my fists? Is this guy stronger than me too?"
Li Hao's eyelids twitched as he watched from the side, muttering to himself. He accepted that he couldn't compare to Lin Mo, but how could even this retainer named Zhu be stronger than him?
"So damn hard, what is this thing made of?"
As soon as he made contact, a recoil numbed half of his arm. Zhu Hao shook his right arm and cursed softly.
Zhu Hao's punch earlier had been as loud as firecrackers. As they were still reflecting, Lin Mo's eyes flashed with golden light, but his expression was not good.
"They're starting to gather... this thing has hearing."
The water ghosts from all directions, which had been aimlessly walking towards the street, were instantly drawn by this huge sound. Hundreds of water ghosts were converging.
Lin Mo was shocked at the thought of a hundred water ghosts forming a circle. Without any delay, he whispered to the two and left.
"The water ghosts are all coming this way. Brother Zhu, when you attack, aim for their heads and necks. Those places are easier to hit, and the movement isn't too loud."
"Okay, I understand."
Zhu Hao and Li Hao exchanged glances. They scanned their surroundings and only saw a vast expanse of white mist, but they instinctively moved closer to Lin Mo, forming a circle around him.
They slowly approached the pier, clearing the Water Ghosts along the way with increasingly practiced skill.
Li Hao alone, with his long saber, could handle three to five Water Ghosts with ease. Zhu Hao, meanwhile, fully utilized the 'long reach' aspect of the Entangling Ape Fist; a sweep of his arm was enough to send heads flying.
As they advanced about a hundred meters towards the pier, the number of Water Ghosts increased, making Lin Mo's route planning gradually more difficult. A single misstep could lead their small group of three to be surrounded by a tide of Water Ghosts.
Just as he was silently planning their path, at the edge of his vision, about a hundred meters away near the pier, he spotted several figures in grey-blue martial artist robes.
They wore uniforms, but their faces were completely unfamiliar, and they were mixed in with the Water Ghosts.
Lin Mo could tell their visible range was only about ten to twenty meters. However, if any Water Ghost accidentally stumbled into their group of three, one of them would step forward, whisper a few words, and wave their hand. The Water Ghost would then act as if hypnotized, turning and retreating.
"They're looking for someone..."
Lin Mo only observed them for a few dozen seconds before realizing their intention. They weren't even clearing the Water Ghosts; it was more like they were here for a mission with a much more specific objective.
The scattered Water Ghosts were in an awkward position. Although the mist was filled with the occasional roars of Water Ghosts, the sounds of Zhu Hao and Li Hao's fighting still reached the three figures a hundred meters away. They began heading towards them.
"Someone's coming closer. Be sharp, there's something wrong..." Lin Mo cautioned.
"Huh?" Zhu Hao was clearly dense and hadn't caught on yet.
Li Hao, however, reacted extremely quickly. Recalling Lin Mo's exceptional eyesight and the fact that he couldn't hear any fighting sounds, he suddenly understood.
"You mean these people have a way to blend in with the Water Ghosts?"
