Upon suspecting that Qi Lin possesses Twin Martial Souls, Yu Xiaogang immediately imagines using both Qi Lin and Tang San to validate his theories and establish himself as the continent’s true “Grandmaster.” 17 His concern for Tang San is genuine, but it is repeatedly intertwined with his desire for Tang San’s achievements to prove Yu Xiaogang’s own worth. 18 189 319

As his status deteriorates, his pride hardens into resentment. Nuoding Academy and Tang San

Yu Xiaogang first encounters Tang San at Nuoding Academy and accepts him as his first disciple. After Tang San reveals his Clear Sky Hammer, Yu Xiaogang identifies it immediately and deduces that Tang Hao is his father. 17 Although he understands Tang Hao’s hostility toward Spirit Hall, he chooses to mentor Tang San because of the prestige Tang San’s potential could bring him. 17

He guides Tang San to obtain a Mandala Snake Soul Ring for Blue Silver Grass, treating the successful result as proof of his theory and planning to publicize the case across the continent. 20 When Bibi Dong confronts him over Tang San’s identity, Yu Xiaogang declares that Tang San is his disciple and offers to bear the consequences himself. 18

Yu Xiaogang also becomes interested in Qi Lin’s Mutated Blue Silver Grass. Believing Qi Lin may possess Twin Martial Souls, he seeks to recruit him and intends to use Qi Lin’s future achievements alongside Tang San’s to establish his own fame. 17 21

Conflict with Qi Lin

After reaching Shrek Academy, Yu Xiaogang continues trying to recruit Qi Lin. He regards Qi Lin’s presence as valuable both for the academy’s tournament prospects and for demonstrating Yu Xiaogang’s teaching ability. 51

When Qi Lin demonstrates advanced Soul Power control, Yu Xiaogang decides to study the method, intending to refine it and potentially incorporate it into his own theories while listing Qi Lin as a co-creator. 55 His imitation instead produces a hazardous training regimen that injures several students. 97 101

When Yu Xiaogang blames Qi Lin for the students’ injuries and demands that Qi Lin teach them the “correct” method, Qi Lin retaliates by slapping him repeatedly. 103 Yu Xiaogang invokes the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan’s name against Qi Lin, further escalating the conflict. 105 130

Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan Punishment

Yu Xiaogang’s conflict with Qi Lin becomes entangled with the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan’s attempt to seize Qi Lin’s Spirit Power Training Method. 130 135 After Qi Lin’s retaliation devastates True Dragon Mountain and kills clan leader Yu Yuanzhen, Yu Luomian holds Yu Xiaogang responsible for bringing calamity upon the clan. 138 139 140

Yu Xiaogang is forced to kneel before Yu Yuanzhen’s mourning hall. He is sentenced to have his limbs broken, receive eighty-one lashes, and remain under thirty years of house arrest; his Soul Power is ultimately not abolished. 140 141 During his confinement, guards abuse and humiliate him, including forcing him to consume contaminated food. 171

Escape, Revenge, and Spirit Hall Imprisonment

Flender and Liu Erlong later visit Yu Xiaogang and believe that he has accepted his mistakes. In reality, he remains focused on escaping, making Tang San powerful, and taking revenge on those who humiliated him. 189 Tang Hao eventually rescues him from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. 200

After escaping, Yu Xiaogang kills twenty-eight clan members who had guarded him, prompting Yu Luomian to issue a bounty for his life. 200 He then goes to Spirit Hall to ask Bibi Dong for the method to resolve the conflict between Tang San’s Twin Martial Souls. 205 206

Yu Xiaogang mistakenly believes that Bibi Dong still has feelings for him and attempts to appeal to their past relationship. Bibi Dong rejects him, has him arrested for impersonating an elder and disrespecting the Pope, and imprisons him in Black Prison. 206 207 Under torture, he reveals Tang Hao and Tang San’s location. 207

Death

Years later, Liu Erlong and Flender visit Yu Xiaogang in Spirit Hall Prison. He attempts to manipulate them into helping him, but both see through his deception. 318 319 Liu Erlong reveals Tang San’s death, destroying Yu Xiaogang’s remaining hope that Tang San could fulfill his ambitions or free him from prison. 319

After Flender and Liu Erlong leave his cell, Yu Xiaogang repeatedly smashes his head against the wall and dies. 319
