There had to be a reward. You could not let the horse run without feeding it grass.
Of course, Li Qi received no reward, because he was the one handing them out. He was also the true leader of this war. That was only proper for the direct line of Wushen Mountain; this was, in itself, a war of the Shaman Path.
Moreover, these expenditures were actually all paid by Li Qi himself.
Wushen Mountain did not normally levy taxes or distribute private income, so naturally there was no such thing as "public property." Unlike the Human Path, where everyone contributed funds to establish a "public fund," from which resources were allocated.
Wushen Mountain did not do such things. Yet whenever they encountered a major event requiring collective participation, everyone basically paid out of their own pockets and took responsibility for their own share.
The Outer Domain Battlefield was an exception. It involved too much for personal contributions to be realistic, so, just as Li Qi had done before, resources were allocated through the "Alliance," whose resources were gathered by the Shamans themselves.
Li Qi had not contributed before, because Zhu Fengdan had provided it.
But this time, Li Qi was paying himself. Fortunately, he had a fairly solid household and could afford it.
