Background

Lingjing is the daughter of Ye Han, a martial-arts instructor, and Duan Jingxian, a surgeon. The Ye family had wanted to adopt Gu Jiaming after his parents died, but the Huang family retained custody; Lingjing nevertheless grew up as his closest protector and companion. When he was bullied, she would defend him, and he spent much of his childhood at her family’s martial-arts school. 3

She trained under her father from an early age, specializing in Wing Chun and Tai Chi. Her regional martial-arts titles were earned in exhibition competitions rather than full-contact fighting. 3

After Lingjing, Jiaming, and Shasha begin living together, Lingjing directly asks Jiaming to remain with and take care of both girls. 52

During the attack on the Star Dream cruise ship, she survives by hiding in a freezer, where Jiaming finds her barely alive. He subsequently reveals a fabricated version of his assassin past to her; Lingjing chooses to stay with him despite the danger surrounding them. 92 94
