Background

Houtu is the youngest of the Twelve Ancestral Witches and is exceptionally cherished by both her siblings and the wider Witch Clan. Her brothers commonly take over her duties, while Great Witches Xingtian and Kuafu manage her tribe's daily affairs. This protected upbringing makes Liu Feng's refusal to become her disciple—apparently the first rejection she has experienced—especially difficult for her to accept. 8 9

When Liu Feng undergoes his Transformation Tribulation, Houtu senses that he has a connection to her and may benefit the Witch Clan. She arrives as Nuwa is about to accept him as a disciple and calmly competes with Nuwa for his allegiance, offering to guarantee his safety if he chooses her. 6 7

Liu Feng ultimately chooses Nuwa, partly because Nuwa offers the Bao Lian Deng. Houtu initially maintains a smile, but vents her dissatisfaction with a destructive release of power after they depart. Although offended by the rejection and Nuwa's perceived victory over her, she explicitly prevents her brothers from retaliating against Liu Feng, believing he may yet be crucial to the Witch Clan's future. 7 10 11
