A Dao Ancestor is the source of an Ancestral Dao rather than merely its cultivator. A Dao Lord may command an Ancestral Dao and be prepared to ascend, but a Dao Ancestor becomes that Dao's true source within Chaos 611.

In the Great Chaos, Ancestral Daos possess uniqueness: a cultivator seeking to attain an already claimed Ancestral Dao must contend with its existing Dao Ancestor. This restriction stems from all Ancestral Daos deriving from the Great Chaos's Origin Dao 620.

• Dao Ancestors stand above Dao Venerables and are described as the ancestors of Great Daos within Chaos 561.
• Their authority extends to all places where their Ancestral Dao's concept exists. Heng She, for example, could manifest the Falling Star Ancestral Dao wherever stars existed—including Chaos, worlds, illusions, and even thought 635.
• Dao Ancestor's Relics are not the remains of a Dao Ancestor. They are crystallized traces of an Ancestral Dao left within Chaos, while a truly fallen Dao Ancestor disappears completely 607.

Attaining Dao Ancestorhood

A cultivator must possess an Ancestral Dao framework and sufficient Dao Source to become a Dao Ancestor. A documented ascension uses 365 wisps of Dao Source to form a Dao Ancestor Core, which absorbs the cultivator's body, soul, true spirit, and origin before evolving into a Small Chaos 629 634.

Dao Ancestorhood does not inherently cause stagnation. A Dao Ancestor can advance by comprehending and attaining a stronger Ancestral Dao that encompasses their previous path 636.

Heng She demonstrated this by evolving his 365-Great-Dao Falling Star Ancestral Dao into a perfect 366-Great-Dao system, increasing his usable strength by roughly one percent 636.

The widespread belief that Dao Ancestors cannot advance arose because, in the former Great Chaos, most stronger Ancestral Daos had already been claimed; cultivators could not find an unoccupied path beyond their existing Dao 636.

A Dao Ancestor opens and controls a personal Small Chaos, which supplies a major part of their power 616.

The difference between a Dao Lord and a Dao Ancestor is described as an uncrossable chasm. A Dao Ancestor can mobilize both a Great Chaos Ancestral Dao and their own Small Chaos, whereas a Dao Lord has neither fully established 615 616.
